The Effective Ways Of Mingeing Without Getting Caught
Posted by: George Applewood - 10-19-2019, 07:37 PM - Forum: Pointless - Replies (13)

I think we all know I have a history of mingeing. And most of us have that little devil inside of us that likes to minge. So I present to you the BEST ways to do the most damage without getting caught, Yes i'm literally exposing some good tactics I use, and yes its a risk i'm willing to take. So I present to you...

Ways to get away with mingeing at SBS Hogwarts-RP

Whenever you are using any skills to free spell, You gotta stay far away, and after you cast the first spell you gotta get rid of your wand, Staff don't have logs to show every single spell casted... Why would they?

Whenever you are in dueling club and you want to use that skill that disarms your enemy, Hide up in the racks up high, And then cast your skill onto the dueling people, It will piss them off so much. (Be careful though)

Micspam is probably the most often used, People do it all the time. Staff don't have logs for this but its still very risky of being caught.

Ever in a staff SIT? hah! well... Just lie your way out of it, I do it all the time.

Everte statem teachers in their class rooms, It pisses them off. Good times but risky.

Great hall? Well... stand outside of the great hall and throw some everte statums at Dumbledore and run away. Then come back and repeat.

---

Feek free to add your best tactics. This is all I know.

  Finding Server
Posted by: Phatjohn99 - 10-19-2019, 03:48 PM - Forum: Help & Guides - Replies (4)

Hello, I've been playing on the SBS server for a couple of weeks now but over the last few days I cant find the server on steam, is it down or been disbanded? Or (most likely) am I just being an idiot?

Staff in general, multiple off tangent rants.
Posted by: Finkle Nosirós-Dragon - 10-19-2019, 08:03 AM - Forum: Feedback - Replies (24)

So I am making this thread simply because staff is declining, I guess you could say this is anti-staff?
(There's going to be multiple sections I think, take the comments as you will)

Since being back within the last few months properly and seeing things for myself, there's multiple issues I can see. Most staff don't seem to have love for the server, only for the power the position grants, presenting issues within the community, the team isn't as strong as it was during and before Rytes tenure as Staff manager, even with newer staff it's clear to see they aren't trained properly by the team, I don't know who's been doing it, but they're not doing a great job, I'll refer you to Ross Redas report here; https://starbystargaming.com/showthread?tid=9272
Now there's the way you guys recruit newer staff members, it is very typical staff members who have their friends apply will most likely blindly +1 them without a second thought, this has and will always be a thing unfortunately, but the way you guys train them can drastically change, personally I think only admins+ should be training ideally as these are the people that have clearly worked there ass off to be where they are at and should be looked up to as role models for staffing.
I also firmly believe trial periods should be a lot stricter, these people can affect your player base and how people view the team, this is the longevity of the server you're trying to preserve. Be stricter during the selection process, actually read people's applications because the amount of blind +1s I see is mental "oh they prefect +1).
Better trainers makes for better staff, more staff building exercises makes for better staff.

#Makestaffgreatagainin2020

A big issue is when staff start losing members for various reasons, be it personal or not.
But then you guys go on a mass recruit spree and take on basically anyone y'all deem to be "friendly & approachable".
Hell Jacktot started off amazingly and recently he's just got all pissy and moody, giving me the impression he only acted nice and approachable to get through trial, same as many others, issue is staff can't be online all the time and keeping an eye on these people because you have this dumb rule that staff is always right and their word is gods law. Similarly Jack and Kyrie also seem to have this constant pissed off sounding voice, people like Sean and Boe sound like they have god complexes and so on, everyone (including myself) has many things they need to work on, but when these attitudes are seen by newer mods and they see you all pull the shit you do where you make up rules on the spot to get someone you don't like banned, it sets bad examples for those aspiring to be helpful to the community and not a hindrance, then you have members of the community like David, who now no longer seem that interested in the position they got and have said some very questionable things, and Michael who just seems to have taken Alex's previous AFKasey title to a new extreme and has next to no presence on the server and the forums.

Now yes, everyone can be busy in life, that's fine and understandable, but when you can see them playing other games or doing other things and clearly neglect their duties as staff, it leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth, example being Amanda being on LOA yet streaming every single day for multiple hours a day.
LOA is just bad in general as it's easily abused by staff, personally I think it should be much like how real life works in the workplace where you get x amount of time for Holidays and sick days, I think something similar should be in place for LOAs.

There's just so much going wrong and I feel like if anyone talks openly about these problems they get shut down and staff jump on the defensive rather than looking at why people feel this way. Hell where are these community meetings at? We had one, then said more would come and there's been nothing since, I think it was very productive and helped the community gain a better understanding of what's going on and what y'all really do.

Now these are my views and opinions alone, I have no idea if other's feel the same way or are against what I have said, I would like to hear different opinions or if people agree or not and why, keep this civil as it can be to anyone who wishes to discuss this topic, apart from that, have a great day y'all.

Edit(s) - One thing Sean touched up on that I didn't, staff that aren't meeting the required hours.
So you a lot of current staff that "play" on the server, do NOT meet the hours required by them, yet tell people applying that they don't have enough hours or aren't active enough.
For example, here's two staff members Gametrackers that often comment about "activity".

[Image: 86e53d43b013900901ba2038059d4a9a.png][Image: db8c8e035fecf4eb96d169072a1eac84.png]

Now why one is better than the other, I can tell you these people shouldn't really be staff, more the left image than the right, let alone having them comment on people's apps about activity, set examples, don't say them.

Jack while some mods can be capable of training, unfortunately most aren't up to the task as to this day most mods don't know the rules, hell most haven't read the compendium before.
Gamemakers can train Gamemakers for sure, but training trial mods? That's a negative and I hope that hasn't happened, unique circumstance would maybe be Ryte or any other Gamemaker who's been mod before and there's no one else available to train.

-1 You Need To Get More Known First.
Posted by: No1onesPrefect - 10-19-2019, 03:59 AM - Forum: Pointless - Replies (10)

I Story Time since the servers are down:

So, this story starts off with a relatively new phenomenon that I’ve been seeing,
the, “-1 You Need To Get More Known First.” vote happening on staff applications.
So, I’ve gathered you all here today to tell you the story of the greatest Moderator in the history of SBS,
Danreh Pickens. Unfortunately, this is a tragic story, but I feel as though it is my duty to tell it nonetheless.
Danreh, you see, was like us- the common folk. The ones who are not the most popular players that everyone knows, and is already friends with. He enjoyed his time on the server, but he wasn’t set out on making a name for himself. So, it came as a great surprise to the Staff Manager at the time to see a Moderator Application from him. His application was neat, the rules were well written, and the few that knew him decided to vouch for him. Thus, the Staff Manager decided to give him a shot. Fast forward a couple of months, and Danreh was loved by all. Those that knew him called him a friend, those that didn’t could still appreciate the friendly, sophisticated way in which he conducted his duties. He could’ve had any community position in the game, had he applied for it. Legend has it Alex Casey himself would’ve stepped down for him. However, this wasn’t what Danreh wanted. All he wanted to do was to make the game as enjoyable as possible for everyone in it, and so he kept his lowly Moderator position despite the allure of the more acclaimed “Super Admin” positions.
However, a political scheme was brewing. The current Staff Manager had an opposing faction. A Rebel Alliance, if you will. They saw him as being cruel, and mindlessly demoting any addman who got in his way. Verily, they had to get rid of him. There was a great battle, and the Rebel Alliance was successful. They then instilled a new King, or Queen in this case. I dare not speak their name, but I can concur that it rhymes with, ‘SadTeaBruh’. This Queen (staff manager) at first glance, would seem a perfect fit for the role, but this was only on a superficial level. For her cold dark Slytherin heart was filled with envy, and rage. She only ever saw Danreh as being a threat to her position as ruler. She knew that should he desire her position, that the community would rally behind him and usurp her in the same manner as she had done to the previous ruler. So, a scandal was necessary. Rumor has it she hired two rogue agents from Fiverr to infiltrate our beloved SBS server, gain the trust of our beloved Danreh, and use it against him. These two agents of the Crown were successful in just that. Every time Danreh tried to bring life to a dead server, these agents would report it to the forums - where they would then hire more agents from Fiverr to stand behind these impeachments. Danreh’s trust got the better of him, and eventually these agents got the better of him. Rumor has it he sent an OWL to the great Alex Casey himself, begging for help, but unfortunately Alex was AFK. Then In his weakened state the Queen was able to finally finish him off, thus securing her position. Danreh was the only one who could’ve saved us, but without him, SBS was never the same.

I wish I had a moral to this story, but alas, I may be burnt at the stake for telling it.
If I could only say one thing, it would be to never judge an applicant by their popularity, but rather by their merit.
