  The Underground Football League

It looks like a popular craze has hit Hogwarts due to the recent events with world football or also known as soccer. A bunch of students have been seen running around and organizing events, which have been deemed as "Underground" or "Scuffed" football during most downtime at Hogwarts.

This isn't like any other football games played by muggles though, as the occupants here have decided to allow the use of their wands to gain an advantage in the game, which would mean this cannot be seen as anything official.

The current teams are as followed

Tunnel Snakes
Lead by the most snarkiest and biggest "c***s" (not my words) you would ever have the displeasure to meet or run into

Patriots
No one chooses where they are born, but if you strongly believe you won the lottery and where u were born is the greatest place in the world, this team is just for you

Rainbow Foxes
For those who have the most open minded and non judgmental way of approaching others. They love everyone until you disrespect them, then they disrespect you

The events and Matches will take place throughout next week and the finals will be held on Friday. All times posted with be my timezone so EST.

If there are any questions feel free to post here.

Applicants Steam ID - STEAM_0:0:52503571

(1.) Do you agree to and accept the Volunteer Staff Application Terms & Conditions? If so, please answer with "Yes, I do agree and accept these terms and conditions." - Yes, I do agree and accept these terms and conditions.

(1a) What name and or alias are you most commonly known as within the SBS community? - Ol’ Enzoe Aeternalis-Knight

(1b.) What is your age? - 24 years.

(2.) Which volunteer community staff position is your application for? - Hogwarts Server Manager.

(3.) Approximately, when was the first time that you joined our community and how did you initially discover it? - I joined for the very first time during the winter ball in 2017, I had seen a YouTube video about Hogwarts, before then I didn’t even know Gmod had multiplayer servers.

(4.) Community staff are held to a much higher standard both in general and with activity when compared to standard game server staff. In this case, do you understand that you can be let go at any time for excessive inactivity at our discretion? - Yes, I understand fully.

(4a) How can we be certain that you will remain active on the server upon being accepted for a volunteer staffing position? - I’ve been here for a few years now and have made a lot of new friends and more, this server has changed my life for the better and I want more people to experience it too.

(5.) Tell us a little about yourself and why you would like to be accepted for a volunteer staffing position on SBS. (100 words or less) - I’ve been a part of the staff team for some time now, I’m always happy to help the community and staff members with various things involving the server, from squabbles between players to answering niche questions about our ever growing compendium of rules. One of the larger reasons I’d like to be accepted is about the compendium, it’s gotten more and more detailed as time goes on and I’d like to continue making it clearer for new players and taking suggestions for new additions to make the server even greater.

(6.) In your opinion, which quality of yourself do you feel that you need to improve on the most? - Personally I feel like I’ve lacked a forum presence aside from handling ban appeals here or there, so I’d like to become more in tune with the community and less distanced as I have been for some time. I’d really like to get to know more of the community and put myself out there, because I tend to be a secluded person for the most part so I want to get out of my comfort zone.

(6a) In your opinion, which skill set of yours do you feel that you need to improve on the most? - I put a decent amount of thought into this and I’d have to say focus might be the word I’m looking for, I love this server, in my 3000+ hours in Gmod I’d say 98% of that time as been spent of Hogwarts RP, but I do have a tendency to get distracted by other games from time to time to the point of letting my activity slip below the norm on some occasions, but I am focusing on the server more as of late and I plan to stick around through thick and thin. I really want to see things prosper and the community grow.

(7.) How would having you on our volunteer staff team benefit our community and what qualities set you apart from the rest of the applicants? - I know the ins and outs of the Hogwarts RP Compendium very well, to the point of quizzing players who have a tendency to forget them. I love answering any questions from other staff or community members. I really value communication and team building. I like to think I act in a none biased manor towards players and staff alike. I can be fairly blunt when I need to be no matter who I’m dealing with. I’m experienced in mediating for people’s disagreements and qualms with others as well.

I’d like more ways for the community and Staff to discuss what could make the server much more enjoyable for everyone, the community is in the dark about changes being made or new things being implemented, sometimes it’s just a change log in the compendium or a forum post, we could make more use out of the SBS Discord. Anything to get the community talking and sharing more ideas.

(8.) Have you ever previously maintained a game server staffing position, or currently are, on any other Garry's Mod servers? If so, which ones, and in which staffing positions? (List them if possible) - I’ve only been staff for SBS Hogwarts.

(9) How would you rate your skills overall out of 10 (E.g., patience, response time, etc.) -

Confidence: 8 -My lengthy time on the server has definitely bolstered my attitude involving staff related things, rarely second guessing myself when it comes to decision making.

Approachability: 8 -I love talking to people on the server, answering questions, helping the new and old players. I think most people know they can just come up and have a conversation with me.

Communication: 9 -I’m on my computer when I’m not working or doing other various tasks around my house so I’m readily available to respond to anyone trying to get in contact with me.

Patience: 10 -It takes a lot to annoy and or bother me, biding my time is a specialty of mine, and anyone who’s tried getting a custom edited knows it can take awhile since guy has many projects going on so it all takes time. I don’t mind waiting.

Response time: 9 -You need questions answered? Is your house on fire? Are you unsure if you can apprehend that death eater chilling at QP? Well look no further, shoot me a msg on discord and I’ll reply in a flash. I’m usually available via mobile on discord if I’m not at my computer.

Knowledge of compendium: 10 -I live and breath the Hogwarts compendium, I have spent much time just reading over the rules and I’m very experienced in handling a wide variety of situations that all feel like grey areas.

Honesty: 10 -I’m a strong believer in brutal honesty. Ask me something and I’ll tell you the truth, that’s that.

Open mindedness: 10 -Always excited to hear about people’s ideas for the server or various changes that could be implemented, not everyone wants the same thing but I’m open to hear it all.

(10.) Provide a couple of examples of situations or issues you may encounter and how you would handle them in the position you are applying for -

Someone makes a server suggestion: After evaluation of the suggestion I’d love to get all the feedback I can from the playerbase and staff, going over ways it could be implemented or solved (if it’s a bug issue or whatnot) and then of course bringing it to the big boy himself The Guy and move from there.

Major confusion about a rule and or job: Large portions of newer players have so much confusion about niche rules or custom jobs, and I feel like there should be more explanations on what certain customs can and cannot do in a place that the general populace has access to. I’d like to make a section in the compendium specifically for those niche custom jobs. It’s safe to say that a lot of general players (none longtime) have no idea what allied neutrals are or what they can do. There are an increasing number of Light Force rogues on the server and plenty of players haven’t the slightest clue that they are undercover in the dark forces but are actually light. Compiling these in a way that makes them easily accessible and understandable would be one of my goals.

Player comes to me with concerns about other staff or the team as a whole: If someone decided to come to me rather than the Staff manager regarding the team or a specific member, I’d do my best to hear their worries and address them to the staff manager and team, so we can work together to help everyone feel comfortable and like we’re all working together to make the server a better place.

The entire staff team resigns out of nowhere: Pray and cross my fingers there’s some trustworthy applicants at the time.

(11.) If applicable, please provide a list of all your previous volunteer staff applications, provide a link to them if possible, and list any reasons why they may have been locked. If they were previously accepted, please provide a short explanation of why you are no longer volunteer staff at the time of this application. (Disregard if this is your first application) - I applied for GM a long long time ago on old forums (it was locked for being open to long I think), and applied for moderator later, it was locked when I was accepted. https://starbystargaming.com/showthread?tid=1489

I'm perfectly happy with my current position but I'd always like to do more for the community. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Applicants Steam ID - STEAM_0:0:65855829

(1.) Do you agree to and accept the Volunteer Staff Application Terms & Conditions? If so, please answer with "Yes, I do agree and accept these terms and conditions." - Yes, I do agree and accept these terms and conditions.

(1a) What name and or alias are you most commonly known as within the SBS community? - Trevor Moongoose

(1b.) What is your age? - 20

(2.) Which volunteer community staff position is your application for? - Server Manager

(3.) Approximately, when was the first time that you joined our community and how did you initially discover it? - Around late September to Early October of 2019, through a friend

(4.) Community staff are held to a much higher standard both in general and with activity when compared to standard game server staff. In this case, do you understand that you can be let go at any time for excessive inactivity at our discretion? - Yes

(4a) How can we be certain that you will remain active on the server upon being accepted for a volunteer staffing position? - I’ve stuck around for this long and genuinely enjoy my time here and plan to stick around as long as I can.

(5.) Tell us a little about yourself and why you would like to be accepted for a volunteer staffing position on SBS. (100 words or less) - I’ve been on the staff team since late November early December of 2019 and been an Admin for a little over a year now. Since my time as not only Admin but as a Moderator as well, I helped not only Managers but staff members as well with anything they may have needed help with. Whether it be answering questions on topics they are unsure of, helping out with inter staff issues or problems even just being someone to talk to. Being as helpful as possible and really showing that you care is a huge part of me in being on the staff team.

(6.) In your opinion, which quality of yourself do you feel that you need to improve on the most? - I can definitely work on taking on more tasks than I can actually handle at one point. Sometimes I tend to want to do a lot of work then it will turn into me trying to get a million things done at once.

(6a) In your opinion, which skill set of yours do you feel that you need to improve on the most? - In terms of what skill set I could improve on, it would have to be my organization and planning skills. Meaning poor organization skills could lead to bad planning whether it be for updates or community feedback. Working on that and keeping it in mind I will definitely improve on it over time as I gain more experience in the position.

(7.) How would having you on our volunteer staff team benefit our community and what qualities set you apart from the rest of the applicants? - I believe the common goal that all applicants share is to better the community, and what separates us is the way we go about doing just that. A key factor in achieving this goal is engagement with the community, which I exhibit regularly as I frequently am on the server and make connections with the player base as best I can. With this consistent engagement I am able to recognize issues that are not seemingly apparent to those who do not make these connections. Whether it be with specific jobs and how to balance them or general feedback for the entirety of the staff team and the community as a whole, I am able to problem solve based on my experiences as well as others’ experiences.

Here I will list a few bullet points on what sets me apart in terms of qualities.

Very Approachable and Available- I’m at my computer 90% of the day at any given point any question, thoughts, concerns that anyone may have. Can be answered relatively soon to when it’s asked. Along with my approachability I also look at a scenario with an open and level mind. I’m very lax and nice when it comes to talking to people. Treating someone how you’d want to be treated is how I was raised so talking to someone with the utmost respect and completely hearing them out and trying to work to either get them an answer or solve their problem is something I will do and always have done.

Background Knowledge and Experience with Server Management- Like I said previously I did run a DarkRP server for about a year and a half. In that time of running a server and a community myself alongside a few friends I learned and gained quite a bit of experience when it comes to managing a server. Whether it be background ULX setting permissions, fixing minor LUA problems to fix addons not running properly, working on optimization for a better player experience, creating and or fixing ULX commands and adding them. Alongside background knowledge of PHP, Very minor LUA knowledge and MYSQL. Also creating and changing jobs within the DarkRP gamemode itself and editing configs. I’m definitely well versed when it comes to server management and background development / work.

Overall Outreach to the Community and Hogwarts Players as a Whole- Over the years I have touched base with multiple groups alike on Hogwarts, whether it be the RPers who are diehard at RP and always wanna stay in character. Ranging from PvPers to the constant minge Master Prestiges you see. So knowing and having a lot of the knowledge when it comes to what different players enjoy doing on the server, to knowing what they want and their needs to enjoy and have fun on the server to help create a better experience for everyone. I’ve definitely touched base with a lot of the players and have made that conduit for a lot of the players to the staff team and the community as a whole. Helping them learn and gain a better experience from the server, rather than being on for 30 minutes and hearing the n word 3 times. They actually stick around and enjoy themselves.

Communication and Teamwork- This one speaks for itself, whenever it comes to making a decision or working on a project I will jump at working with someone or multiple people. Getting supporting or contrasting opinions on a subject is a million times better than just making that decision on your own just on the whim. When it comes to working on projects with people, some might see things differently and want to do it a different way and working together to make that compromise is always what’s best. Rather than just saying it’s going to be done your way whether you like it or not. Working together with people is also just a lot more fun in my opinion and that can only help to better achieve that common goal we all have and that’s to create a welcoming and enjoyable experience to all our players.

Below I am going to list a few ideas that I would like to implement that I think could help the server.

Community Meeting / Board- A lot of veteran players will know that when Astro was Server Manager he did something along the lines of a Community Board. Where people from all walks of life on the server whether it was, PvPers, RPers, Dragon players, Animal players, Dark and Light Force mains literally any niche you can think of on the server there was a person on that board. They would meet and discuss certain things that would go on, on the server or just general server changes. Maybe a certain spell affected the way the PvPers played but it was beneficial to the Light Force players. They would take those things and work on them to make changes to better help the community and players as a whole. Now my idea has to do with a slightly different approach where it would be Community Meetings once a month or once every 2 months. This is the time the staff and the players would meet and we could take on server suggestions, take criticism on rules changes or even job updates, give the community general updates on what’s going on in terms of updates or the staff team. This idea brings a lot more cooperation with the players and actually gives them a voice. Because as it stands now it really doesn’t matter what the players want and that’s not right. This is the server they play on; they should at least have some say in the things that go on. I even had the idea to have Google Forms to fill out for general server feedback also with staff feedback, if you feel a certain player or staff member is doing awesome you can let them know. The staff feedback would be gone through first by the Staff and Server Manager to make sure the troll / non realistic feedback would be taken out first.

Hogwarts Discord- The Hogwarts discord is very unused and that is a shame, using it more to post weekly updates or news as it comes up is something I would like to do. As Well as some fun mini server wide events that could happen where you would find out in the discord and forums. Some events could even happen in the discord, this idea was thought up to kind of bring a better moral to the server. The discord doesn’t really get used when there are a good amount of things we could use it for.

Overall Transparency- This one can be controversial but hear me out. Currently within the server and the staff team there is not a lot of transparency. A lot of the time we haven’t heard about certain things going on until they happen. One example I can think of are a couple CBans, I know me personally and a few other staff members found out of players on the server.. Yep that's right. It has gotten a little better since, but all in all it should have never happened that way in the first place and bringing to light that transparency. To me if you can’t share info on CBans or the fact that a CBan is happening you simply just can’t trust your staff. That’s a problem in itself. There also seems to be this weird transparency from the general population of the server and the staff team. Many players feel like the staff team can be like this secret society where we can’t share any information at all. Thats just simply stupid, why can’t we talk about certain things or share certain things? If it’s going to affect a player or players then they deserve to know what’s going on at least to some extent. Now I’m not saying leaking should be okay or that we need to share everything. But I am saying that a lot of this confidential stuff doesn’t need to be so confidential. Not saying there is a lot of confidential stuff, but if there was and it came up that we can’t share that we definitely should.

Finishing Michaels Projects- This one is pretty much a given, I first would want to start off by finishing up any projects left behind by Michael. One of them being a Library Update that a lot of the staff worked hard on together to make a cool library experience for the players. Finishing up the unfinished projects will help to start a new slate for the staff team and community as a whole. Even for the next Server Manager.

(8.) Have you ever previously maintained a game server staffing position, or currently are, on any other Garry's Mod servers? If so, which ones, and in which staffing positions? (List them if possible) - I did own a DarkRP server for about a year that was okay in terms of the player base known as LucidRP.

(9) How would you rate your skills overall out of 10 (E.g., patience, response time, etc.) -

Keep in mind these are just a few of skills as they are the ones I think fit the Server Manager Position the most.

Patience - 9 - I have good patience when it comes to working with others or simply just waiting for things to get done. It’s definitely one of those things that is important when it comes to being a Server Manager, as you are working with others constantly.

Response Time - 10 - I say this is a 10 because 90% of the time I am on my computer and free to talk whenever it’s needed, the few times I’m not at my PC I’m probably sleeping. So I usually get back to people right away.

Teamwork - 9 - I love to work with people, I’m a strong believer in thinking that more opinions and ideas on things can only be beneficial to the common goal you share. I will always look to other people for not only supporting opinions, but contrasting ones as they share different perspectives on the matter which will allow for more insight.

Work Ethic - 8 - My work ethic is very consistent, although sometimes things may feel like they slipped under a huge pile of papers and you’re scrambling to get things done. There is always room to grow and become better as not only a Server Manger but as a person.

Approachability - 9 - I’m very approachable. My fellow staff members could answer that for anyone, I’m always open to constructive criticism or feedback and am always willing and looking to help anyone in a time of need or distress.

Communication - 10 - Communication is of great importance especially when pertaining to a staff team, a server manager should have no problem conveying ideas amongst peers in the community. Communication does not only apply to positive situations, it is also important to be able to confront issues head on and exhibit the correct ways of handling said issues such as de-escalating a situation. This is one of my strengths as I continuously voice my opinion and listen to others’ opinions.

(10.) Provide a couple of examples of situations or issues you may encounter and how you would handle them in the position you are applying for -

Updates or Decisions the Community Dislikes - This one in particular is a HUGE thing in my opinion when it comes to making updates or changes to the server, it’s clear that for the most part not everyone will agree with everything you do. That is just a tough situation and it comes with the position and it’s trying to please everyone while also trying to make positive and helpful changes for the future and longevity of the server.

Honestly, the way that I would approach this would be to specifically find out what it is that the player base either doesn’t like or thinks should be changed. Then I would work with the players and try to meet a middle ground so everyone is happy. Because in the end if the players aren’t happy then what is going to keep them around? Overall paying attention to player feedback is what’s important in keeping the community engaged.

Working with Guy - Trying to get something added to the server whether it be suggestions or changes brought up by the community or staff team that Guy may not agree with.

Working closely with Guy is something that is very common practice when it comes to being Server Manager. We’ve heard that a lot of the time changes were wanting to be made whether it be an update or adding things to the server, and it just came down to being that Guy didn’t want to do it or didn’t like the idea. If Guy doesn’t like it, I would work with him and communicate what he thinks we should change in order for him to like the idea or get behind it. I feel a lot of the time Guy was scapegoated and when it comes to getting stuff done. You’re going to have to talk to Guy and throw ideas back and forth to come to a common ground.

Staff coming to me about an issue with another staff member- While I wouldn’t be the Staff Manager I would be a manager, so if someone came to me looking for help or guidance I would love to help them. I would first start by getting the whole story or really what’s been bothering them. I then would let Justin know as he is Staff Manager he should know and like I said before communication is a big part of having a successful partnership and staff team. After hearing everything out and speaking with Justin about the topic or issue at hand. I will speak with the opposing party and see what’s been going on between them and the other staff member. After taking in everything from both parties and again speaking it over with Justin or even the Admin team to get different opinions. I could then go at the situation either with a punishment, talking to, or maybe even just sitting down and airing everyone's frustrations out. That will definitely work better than just taking what someone says and punishing someone or just talking to them right away. After all we’re all a family and a staff team people will but heads it happens but we always move past them.

If there are any other scenarios you'd like to hear how I'd handle feel free to comment and ask.
