I haven't taken a look at the new compendium yet, but does this mean slugulus wouldn't be considered free spelling in rp and unable to be punished by prefects? (Like in classes and such). As well as stupefy? Mainly in class is what im wondering.

I always considered spells that could be freespelling as something that negatively impacts the player it's being used on

According to the new compendium, if you continue casting it at someone when they ask you to stop, it's a staff issue now instead of a prefect issue. Isn't that wonderful?

I believe any spell you use on someone (Even confettii charm?) can be considered free-spelling if asked to stop and the user does-not. Though using stupify/slugulus on multiple students wouldn't?

There's no way it's a staff issue now. It has to be some misunderstanding. If someone is stupefying me and other people, the prefects better step in and put them in detention. I don't care if it's not a damaging spell.

If I'm being targeted personally, I'd hope staff would step in and help me.

An RP solution to an RP issue, that would just make too much sense.

It seems to me we've already got that one covered.

I just don't see why we need to muddy the waters between 'RP scenario' and 'issue requiring staff intervention' even more when it comes to the freespelling rules. Stupefying someone when they've asked you to stop is not automatically "targeting and harassment." Some RP bullying should be allowed and more circumstances than "they asked you to stop" should be considered when deciding that someone is being harassed.

EDIT:
Let me try to expand upon it this way. If someone is stupefying me, my response should be something like:
1) get a prefect to give them detention for breaking school rules
2) stupefy them for revenge and hope a prefect doesn't give me detention for breaking school rules
3) run away so they can't stupefy me any more

The new rules suggest my response should be more like:
1) tell them to stop and if they don't, complain in @ chat

One of my roleplay roles I like to use is a bully when I'm on Slytherin student. I don't necessarily target one person (Unless both of us are bullying each other for roleplay) but I do like to target random people and stupefy them, and use the laughing emote because they "tripped on a rock" Or aquamenti them and then laugh. Both are non damaging spells :'(.

I've been pulled and threatened with a ban for using aguamenti. Apparently whether it is allowed or not just depends on which staff members are online.

I guess that now whether RP bullying in general is allowed or not depends on whether the 'victim' wants to roleplay or not. On a roleplay server.

This is the cost of wording the compendium to allow for maximum staff discretion.
