Quincy Rupert Chills Moderator Application

(1.)  What is your SteamID? - $STEAMID$

(1a) What is your most recent ingame name? –

Quincy Rupert Chills

(1b) What is your current year level in-game? (MUST be 7th to apply.) -
1st Prestige – 4th year

(2.) What Timezone do you live in? -

Central Standard (CST) (UTC−6)

(2a) Please put what times you are most active in CST (Chicago US), so the managers know when they can expect to see you. –

I have a normal 8-5 office job in the CST time zone so expect after 5pm CST. Lately I have been WFH and logging in for an hour at lunchtime but this won’t be permanent.
(3.) How old are you? -

(4.) When did you first join our server and how did you discover it? –

I first joined around 4/17/20 but it looks like I may have played on this server at some point earlier if gametracker is to be believed. I discovered it by watching a youtube video.

(4a) How can we be sure you will stay active and loyal (with your time) to Star by Star? –
It seems like there are quite a few people here who have (and still are) working hard to build an awesome community. I can respect the amount of hard work and dedication that this takes and I would love to help contribute to this wonderful community. It isn’t easy to do what you guys do. If what I have seen while playing here is reflective of the community as a whole, it’s a no brainer that I will want to stick with you guys :)

(4b) Do you understand you can be let go at ANY time for inactivity? –
Yes, I understand that if one were to abandon their duties for an extended period of time without explanation that they would not be the right person for this job. I understand that this is a privilege that is bestowed with great trust and that can be revoked without reason at any moment.

(5.) Do you understand and agree to not only comply with, but also enforce the rules of the Server when necessary? –
Of course.

(5a) When listing the rules please explain what they mean to show that you understand them.

 1: No Fail RP

Fail RP – Acting in such a manner that is unbecoming of the role that the player is currently occupying.
Students’ main job is learning; they need to spend most of their time in the classroom and not off in the dark forest fighting Voldemort.
Teachers’ main job is teaching; When they are the leader of a class they need to behave in a manner that is in accordance with their job. No teacher would ever stand on top of a chalkboard and definitely would never stand on a student’s head.
Those are just a few examples of Fail RP. Generally I find that this is one of the rules I see enforced the least and that’s probably for the best; this is GMOD after all and understandably sometimes short workarounds and immersion breaks need to occur in order to smooth the flow of the game overall.

2: No disrespectful, hateful, offensive language and behavior

Behind every character model on the server is a real life person who chooses to spend their free time playing Hogwarts RP with us. We should show respect to each other as if we were speaking to someone in the same room.
Players who come to the server with the sole intention of inciting controversy by spamming voice/text chat are not welcome here in my book. It is extremely easy to find players like this because they often say the most controversial or outlandish things they can think of and do not stop even after repeated warnings to COOL IT.
In addition, I believe that harassment also falls under this rule. When a player asks another to stop a behavior that they do not wish to participate in (often verbal teasing), the offender should stop what they are doing and leave the other player alone. Repeated targeted harassment after being told to stop is not a behavior that we should tolerate.

 3: No Random Deathmatch

We are at Hogwarts. Everybody knows that students are not supposed to even use magic outside the halls! Could you imagine the kind of shock that would reverberate throughout the wizarding world if a student were to die at Hogwarts? It is supposed to be one of the safest places in the wizarding world!
As such, we should strive to keep the amount of death at Hogwarts to a minimum. Students should not be killing anybody. Teachers should definitely never kill a student (even if they plan to bring them back with a resurrection potion. I learned this lesson the hard way).
The people who host and make this game available for us have dedicated a class slot called “Lockdown” during which everybody can get all the RDM out of their system so this is the only time where people should be dying.

4: Obey staff and RP leaders

This ties back to rule #1, no failRP. When the headmaster of Hogwarts tells you, a student, to jump… you ask him “how high?” while you are in the air. We are all here to have a good time and RP leaders usually have the experience and wit to provide everybody with an enjoyable experience. As such, as long as RP leaders are not actively encouraging others to break server rules, we need to follow their lead. In the event that someone has been revealed to be a less than adequate RP leader, we need to take that into consideration at a future time and not cause problems with an active RP scenario.

 5: No massive free spelling

If you and your buddies want to go back behind the school and have a stupefy extravaganza with each other then I see no problem with that.
What I do have a problem with is people who free spell unwilling targets, especially targets that are actively involved in a class or RP situation. People who Everte teachers while they give out homework or that just constantly spam damaging/annoying spells in class need to have Admin sits and/or further action taken if they continue. I am honestly in awe at how many 7th prestiges I have seen stupefying teachers in classrooms, they really should know better (see rule 4).

 6: No Metagaming

Metagaming is using knowledge that you should not have (due to role play scenario and jobs) to gain an unfair or otherwise bullshit advantage over other players. Examples of this include:
Phone hacking – having a friend spectate and call things out to you through an external voice channel.
Attacking unrevealed Dark forces at inappropriate times (not lockdown)

 7: No Mic/chat spam

Mic spammers use the power of their voice channel to disrupt others’ gameplay experience by creating/replicating loud and often annoying noises.  That being said, there are players that actually enhance the gameplay experience through the creative use of voice channels at the appropriate time; I don’t believe that these people qualify as Mic spammers.
I believe that I have the good judgement and sound mind to differentiate between the two and deal with both types of player accordingly.

8: Owlpost is for significant RP purposes only

This text channel has been dedicated for a specific purpose and as such we need to make sure that people are using it correctly. Owl post may be used by teachers to communicate important messages to students regarding their classes (PTS active, class start time, etc.) It can also be used by prefects when stating RFD as well as people wishing to buy and sell snatches.

 9: No Erotic Role Play

It is my understanding that the leaders of this server wish to create an environment that is safe, friendly, and welcoming to all. This is my goal as well. I’m 29 years old and have spoken with one or two women in my day so I understand the frustration they feel when they log in to play some Harry Potter RP and are greeted by some teenager shouting “COCK AND BALLS” in their face. It’s not enjoyable to them, it’s not enjoyable to me, and frankly we should not tolerate it on this server.
If anything I think it’s a maturity thing that can be solved by talking with the offenders. Many teenagers have never spoken to the opposite sex in any meaningful way and it’s my belief that being a good role model here can be more effective than reaching for the ban hammer.

10: Do Not avoid the AFK system

It’s a 2 week ban if you avoid the AFK system according to what I’ve been reading on the forums. Doesn’t seem worth it when you consider how tiny of an amount of XP you get from being AFK.
People walking in corners, using binds to move aimlessly around the map, those are examples of exploiting the AFK system.
(5b) Expain what the term "minge" means, when referring to a player on the server –
Minge refers to a player that is unfamiliar with the rules or even how to play the game, often due to the fact that they are a new player, but sometimes due to more nefarious intentions.
I have a few simple tests to determine if a person is a minge. So far they have been very accurate:
Follow this simple command- if a player is unable to complete the simplest of tasks such as “follow me”, there is a good chance you may be dealing with a minge.
Acting overly confused – Minges get confused by even the most basic of obstacles
Obvious rule breaking – most people know not to shout the n-word over and over again

(6.) Tell us about yourself and why you want to be staff on SBS? (100 words or less) –

I’m a pretty chill dude who just wants to have some fun playing Harry Potter RP after a long workday.  I feel like I’m pretty reasonable and have a good amount of life experience to be fair and impartial. I work in IT for a fortune 500 company.

(7.) What do you feel you need to improve on the most? –

There are still some aspects of the game that I am unsure of (i.e certain jobs that are locked for me). I am a fast learner however and do not believe that this will be an issue.  I know that I am relatively new to the server but am more than willing and able to do whatever is needed to get up to speed.
(8.) How would having you on staff benefit our server and what sets you apart from the rest of the applicants? –
I feel like I have a level of maturity that many applicants do not have. I also find it extremely satisfying to deal with rulebreakers, I enjoy it greatly. I normally try to avoid playing as prefect but there are times when I run into a jerk that constantly breaks the rules and I switch to prefect and just follow them around… this is extremely enjoyable to me.
(9.) Have you been staff/are currently on any other servers? If so, which ones? (List them if possible) -

(10.) Have you ever been banned on any Garrys Mod/SBS servers? If yes, then please list when, how long, and the reason. -
No, Never

(11.) Are the Server staff or the players more important? Why? –

Staff are obviously more important than players. Anybody with $10 can hop on this server and cause chaos but it takes a person with a heart of gold to want to wade through all the mess and make the game enjoyable for all.

(12) How would you rate your skills overall out of 10 (EX: Patience, response time, etc) –

Patience 10
Communication 8
Honesty 8
Activity 9
Grammar 9
Response time 7
Leadership 8
(13.) If you do not know how to handle a situation in a mod-sit, what do you do? –
Before I began any course of action that I am not sure about I would seek the advice of someone wiser if they are currently available. In the event that there is no one available and the situation called for immediate action, I would use my best judgement to deal with the situation at hand. If the situation did not call for immediate action, I would seek to postpone action until I could consult with a wiser 3rd party.
(14.) You understand and realize, that by applying for staff on the server also means, that you are sacrificing the complete freedom of being able to RP freely all the time without any interruptions, and are obligated to handle all server issues at hand no matter the situation? -

I welcome it.

(15.) Please make a list of all previous staff applications, a link to them, and the reason they were locked. If they were accepted, please give a short explanation of why you are no longer staff. (Disregard if this is your first application) –

Never applied before.

I really enjoyed reading this app.

There will be others posting concerns over how new you are. I have personally seen you around but our interactions are few and far between.

You've been active enough in the last two weeks to pass my activity test, but that's the only time you've ever been active. Like others, you'll likely be observed over the next couple weeks as your app period progresses. Make an effort to do things that make you stand out so that people can see and hear how you respond to certain situations and while under stress, and see how you communicate with others (something like Great Hall). Also, make an effort to report server rulebreakers to mods and on the forums during prefect law- the community and staff need to see that you know right from wrong and what level of evidence is acceptable/not since you are relatively new.

If you wish to apply to any custom whitelist that you may see me on, please click this link and fill out the form. Good Luck!Plays as:

However, I do see potential in you being an asset to the community.

This application will be a +1 from me

I’m wishing you luck on your application.

Strongly disagree, I think the most important thing in an application is playtime, especially since we seem to have a great lack of staff play time. I reject this sentiment that a "good" app means the most, when it comes to determining new moderators, I could write a fantastic app, doesn't mean I would make a good applicant.
Also it is impossible for me determine, whether someone is strict with the rules, or understandable. Whether someone has a good attitude or is a total dickhead. There is no way for me to determine that shit by reading their application. I need to have interactions with them on the server to determine that, also their level means nothing to me.

My point is, you straw man my argument, and say "What bothers me about other community members is that they see your level and can automatically throw out the phrase “Who are you?” and “I haven’t seen you on the server enough.” You make the assumption it's based off his level, instead of thinking about it a little more critically and seeing hey, they don't know anything about this person besides what they wrote down in their app. Given enough time, literally everyone ever could make a very well written app.

I've never seen you around the server for some reason even though you're well into a prestige. As Scratcher mentioned, get yourself more well known and especially as someone who enforces the rules.

That was music to my ears. I've seen you around although I am indeed very active. We've had some brief meetings and I have witnessed you sitting at your desk in class; You're usually participating when I do see you. Quite a long application you had there; seeing to the fact that I did read the whole post, well done.   gryffindorPride slytherinPride hufflepuffPride ravenclawPride  Nuetral
