These Volunteer Staff Application Terms & Conditions constitute a legally binding agreement made between you, whether personally or on behalf of an entity (“you”) and Star by Star Gaming ("Company", “we”, “us”, or “our”), concerning your volunteer services on any of our services and or platforms such as and not limited to, our websites, game servers, any other media form, media channel, console or PC application, mobile website or mobile application related, linked, or otherwise connected thereto. You agree that by posting this application and or responding to application question (1.) with "Yes, I do agree to these terms and conditions.", you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by all of these terms and conditions. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH ALL OF THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, THEN YOU ARE EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED FROM APPLYING FOR A VOLUNTEER STAFF POSITION AND YOU MUST DISCONTINUE YOUR APPLICATION PROCESS IMMEDIATELY.


You accept and understand that you are not any form of an employee, contractor, or agent of Star by Star Gaming. You accept and understand that the volunteer services you provide will be a donation and under no circumstances will you expect wages, salary, or benefits from Star by Star Gaming for the services provided during your time as a Volunteer Staff member. We reserve the right to remove or let go of any volunteer staff member for any reason and at any time at our sole discretion.


Any and all actions, including and not limited to, player and or user punishment, such as issued bans or otherwise on our game servers, websites, or other platforms, as well as any statements made by you, or any behavioral misconduct, does not express the views of Star by Star Gaming and are conducted at your sole discretion. You agree that all of these are of your own and you withhold full personal responsibility. Your actions, behavior, and or statements will be taken or given at your sole discretion and you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless, including our subsidiaries, affiliates, and all of our respective officers, agents, partners, contractors, volunteers, volunteer staff, and employees, from and against any loss, damage, liability, claim, or demand due to the outcomes of your gross negligence, willful misconduct, actions, statements, and or behaviors or any other conduct on your behalf, which cause or may give rise to criminal liability while performing volunteer staff services for Star by Star Gaming.


IN NO EVENT WILL WE OR OUR DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, VOLUNTEERS, VOLUNTEER STAFF, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFIT, LOST REVENUE, LOSS OF DATA, OR OTHER DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR VOLUNTEER SERVICES, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.


These Volunteer Staff Application Terms & Conditions can and may be updated at any time without notice at our discretion, so be sure to frequently check back for any updates to these terms and conditions. An effort to inform you that they've been updated will be made, but not promised, so it's your responsibility to periodically check back. By posting this application and or responding to application question (1.) with "Yes, I do agree to these terms and conditions.", you are accepting and agreeing to these terms and conditions indefinitely regardless of any changes or amendments to these terms and conditions unless or until you are no longer a Volunteer Staff member. (1b.) What is your age? - 21 


(2.) Which volunteer community staff position is your application for? - Hogwarts Server Manager
 
(3.) Approximately, when was the first time that you joined our community and how did you initially discover it? - I joined the server in July of 2017. I discovered the server after I had binged a few Hogwarts movies and wanted to continue my magical journey.
 
(4.) Community staff are held to a much higher standard both in general and with activity when compared to standard game server staff. In this case, do you understand that you can be let go at any time for excessive inactivity at our discretion? - Yes of course


(4a) How can we be certain that you will remain active on the server upon being accepted for a volunteer staffing position? - My activity has been mostly shaky recently due to My medical courses and my work. This of course affected a few thing such as my consistency with hosting meetings. I realized that the workload in general was not practical and stepped down to a lower flex schedule in my job and re-arranged my class schedule. This will me to be on the server, minimum 4 times in a week. I would never apply for this position knowing that I intend to become inactive as that would never be a good thing. If there was ever a chance that my consistency would ever drop I would not hesitate to step down. Holding on to such a high position without being consistent would be unfair to the staff and the community.
 
(5.) Tell us a little about yourself and why you would like to be accepted for a volunteer staffing position on SBS. (100 words or less) - I’ve seen first hand the responsibilities that come along with being a Server Manager, as well as its expectation. I’ve worked on multiple server related projects such as the job spawn locations and the formatting of the compendium. After all that I realized how fun and engaging it is. The role that the position played opened my eyes to a possibility of changes and improvements that could potentially come to the server. Along with this I really wish to focus on doing what makes the community happy, I of course understand that while I cannot make everyone happy and give them what they want, I can surely try my best to give them what they need.
 
(6.) In your opinion, which quality of yourself do you feel that you need to improve on the most? -

My wording
  • I do believe my wording is the biggest issue I have. It is something that I’ve been actively trying to work on for the last 2 years. In some instances I do believe I have improved tremendously however there are some areas where a little more thought goes a long way.  

Being too Quick to decide a Character
  • This is something I noticed about myself from last year. I realized that I was too quick to come to a conclusion about people's character. This was my biggest downfall as it did cause issues with my interactions. I’ve worked on this the hardest in attempts to right my wrongs. While this is not something I am proud of, I am willing to see my flaw and do work on them as soon as they are mentioned.
Consistency
  • I do believe the biggest worry most members will have is my activity. I was very consistent last year but fell off again around March during my Medical Midterms. As stated above this won't be an issue anymore since I’ve balanced my workload better.

(6a) In your opinion, which skill set of yours do you feel that you need to improve on the most? -

Time Management
  • This will tie into my consistency as well. The main thing is I want to manage my time very carefully to make sure everything gets done when they are supposed to and everyone gets responded to on time.
 
(7.) How would having you on our volunteer staff team benefit our community and what qualities set you apart from the rest of the applicants? -


There are many things I would like to work on side by side with the Team and community.


Closing the Gap
  • The staff team as we are now feels almost disconnected with the community, in the past we used to have TeamSpeak community meetings where all concerns were voiced. I would love to bring this back. Gaining views from the people that make the server is essential to its longevity and health. Server Meetings would be hosted ideally once a month and any and everyone would be allowed to join to voice opinions and concerns. This is also where any necessary updates will be mentioned to community members in hopes of answering any potential questions.

Name Appeals
  • Name appeals will be responded to within 48 hours of them being posted. This way the player has the name reviewed and handled as soon as possible so they may return to playing comfortably or without confusion on the rules.

Server Suggestions
  • Server Suggestions are handled slightly differently. Whilst most are ultimately Guy’s decision a follow up will be sent to the player as soon as possible. This will be crucial as communication will be my strong suit.


Apart from some of the things I intend to do above, I do have first hand experience with the Role of Server Managing. For little over a year I have been working hands on with Michael for many behind the scenes tasks. From these side projects with Michael I ended up formatting the entire Compendium of Rules which I had temporary Server Manager to do, reviewing server suggestions with him, working on job spawns on the test server, updating the /commands for all roles from regular, VIP to Prestige. These and many other projects allowed me to actively hands-on see the responsibility of a Server Manager and what is expected. This also allowed me to see too what the players wanted and possible ways of achieving these.



 
(8.) Have you ever previously maintained a game server staffing position, or currently are, on any other Garry's Mod servers? If so, which ones, and in which staffing positions? (List them if possible) -  I am currently an administrator on SBS Hogwarts. This is my only staffing history.


(9) How would you rate your skills overall out of 10 (E.g., patience, response time, etc.) 


Confidence (8) - I believe I am confident, but not to the point where it would be considered as delusional. I intend to work on this but also maintain humility.


Approachability (9)  - I do not believe anyone has an issue approaching me with concerns or even feedback. I enjoy conversing with players and staff and love hearing what they have to say.

Communication (8) - My communication could be a bit sharper but I believe that I communicate well and will strive to improve on this.


Knowledge of Rules (10) - I am very confident of my rule knowledge. I have studied the rules and worked with Management before in structuring them.

Patience (9) - I believe I am very patient. At the end of the day theres never a need to be impatient with a player, becuase behind that screen is a person and should be treated as such.

Open Mindedness (10) - I'm open to any ideas, changes or other decisions made or wish to be made. Ill be able to go through the ideas from the community via Server Meetings or meetings with the student body council.

(10.) Provide a couple of examples of situations or issues you may encounter and how you would handle them in the position you are applying for - 


A player comes to me regarding a rule change or confusion
  • If a player comes to me regarding a rule that they believe should be changed, I will review the rule and discuss it with the rest of the staff. After which the rule change will be brought up at the Team Speak Server Meeting where it can be properly discussed.

Exploiting 
  • If a player is suspected of exploiting, I wish to handle it differently than how it is now. The method now makes players feel like they have a target over their heads which isn't entirely inviting for players on the server, especially if we end up being wrong. My means of handling this is using the tools I have been given as Server Manager to monitor and handle the potential exploiting properly. This is done to prevent unnecessary eyes on players that do not need it. I ultimately want players to see that we are not here to punish them but Guide them.

If a Cban or Staff  issue happens
  • As a Server Manager I want to be fully straight forward with the staff team. When something big happens, we usually would not be notified right away depending on it’s content. My plan is to discuss the content more with management to see what we can share so that we at least share something. But it doesn't stop there. Player transparency is also essential. The Bulletins and Server Meeting will discuss these issues or changes but in more filtered details.

Staff Dispute
  • In the instance there is a staff dispute. If brought to me first my intent is to work side with the Staff Manager and then Ultimately leave for him to truly conclude. I will never interfere with the affairs or decisions of the Staff Manager. If absolutely necessary then a discussion can take place. Ideally I wish to rather aid them carry out their duties if the aid is needed.

I have a couple issues with you, in the past you had bad activity, but you have since been way more active, so I can't speak about that as of now. 

My other gripe is that you are a people pleaser, you seem to say things others want to hear. This is a bad quality in my opinion for leadership, you seem to say one thing to somebody and a differing opinion to another. It can come off very disingenuous, but worse of all it shows that you don't firmly stand behind anything you believe.

I have had multiple occasions where this very thing gave me a very negative point of view of you.
I witnessed you doing this to other people as well, where you would agree with said person to 'get the scoop' and then go tell everyone about what they were saying behind their back.
They were long ago though, and I feel like its almost unfair, but thus I still feel this way.

I was trying to figure out how to word my response to your app but this nearly sums it up for me, another issue with you for me is I know you used to actively leak to ex staff members, so that makes me question if you still do it now. Sorry but for me it's a hard -1 chief.

Edit: Just a note, this is another poorly written app that seems to have not as much thought or care put into it vs other apps.
Does Jacob have positives? Yes, do they outweigh the negatives that come with a two faced people pleaser? No.
I want someone REAL in the position, not someone who plays everyone and thinks he can get away with it.

I had staffed for awhile with Jacob now and been through quite enough to give an overall evaluation. I will go over some of the positive qualities first.

Jacob is the definition of professionalism, and formalities, I do envy you in that department. You do talk to the community a lot and are apart of forum staff so your record is also clean.

There are some underlying issues I have with you becoming server manager that I need to talk about. My first one is that you are really big on gossip, about me and others in general from experience.

This could also lead to my other issues, where you will sit down and talk with people one on one but depending on who you are talking too, you flip flop sides and opinions for the sake of what the person you are talking too wants to hear, this means throwing people under the bus for your gain.

That is by far what sticks with me about the most, time and time again I am reminded of it. You also had very low participation and activity right up until Michael resigned, and people do notice these things.

While all discussions work better one on one I did want to go through 2 things.
Yes I do recall and have been mentioned the people pleaser concern which is something I've worked on and have been working on, but I do not want it to be confused with empathy or showing care for a situation I too feel strongly about.
I understand that I cannot make everyone happy but I do try to aid everyone to the best of my abilities. The goal is not to please but instead to help.

The one point that I will say does not define me is gossip or leaking. These two titles are things that I would never want anyone to use as a defining factor and wouldn't mind discussing these privately in the future.

Over time Jacob has been my go to person for in most cases things that staff managers and server managers should be handling but wasn't ( at the time ). Jacob has seen to be a "people pleaser" but at the same time takes into account that some people just genuinely want to be helped or pleased and he does that. He has shown me and others that he is more than capable of holding this position easily. Let it be known that he's a great staff member when it comes down to it, he puts in the work when he needs to bc obv ( just a game )  and from what i've seen, gets along with everyone he encounters. He goes out of his way to talk with others and make conversation, he doesn't get mad at situations( from what i've seen ) and overall a great guy. This is my opinion on Jacob and I can easily say +1

No shade, I hold nothing against you personally, and I do not want to take a vote because I do not play on the server hardly at all anymore so I don't feel I can have a proper opinion on who deserves this position, I do feel the need to speak up about claims of leaking/gossiping.

For months after I resigned from my admin position you would come talk to me about staff stuff. I do not have any examples as this was years ago and it was always in voice chats (discord and TS both).
Before I was an admin, you would leak to me stuff from admin meetings and basically told me I was getting admin before the meeting where I was promoted. 

Like I said, I don't have evidence or even examples other than the admin thing because it was years ago, and they were all through voice chats or KIK chat which no longer exists, but this is what I remember.

This is going to be awkward because I like Jacob as a person, but I am going to be critical here. It's going to be even more awkward because I know these votes don't matter, and unless things have changed without my knowledge, he will probably get the position. I'm going to share my thoughts anyways because I care about this server, and talking into the void is my MO. Neutral leaning -1. [edit: I've decided that anything other than neutral here is probably unfair because of how long ago the concerns and impressions I'm sharing were formed.]

Jacob's activity (in the times that I have been active) has been lacking. The reason I'm saying neutral here is because I have been inactive for a long while as well (until recently) and this, as well as the other things I'll mention, may have changed during that time. Activity seems to me to be one of, if not the leading problem and complaint with previous managers and watching the same thing play out again would just be disappointing and sad. In my experience, you can expect to see Jacob active whenever there is an opening in the staff team that he wants, or a YouTuber/streamer comes on, otherwise... not so much. I sometimes got the same "people pleaser" vibe that others are pointing out when his attitude towards me seemed to change based on the friends I had rather than my own behavior. This view has been reinforced by observations of a willingness to change face depending on who is or is not present. Overall I feel like this applicant taking the role will lead to more of the same problems and complaints the community has had with the role in the past, and more of the disconnect between regular players and the staff team / "in-groups" of the server. Jacob is a nice guy, but I think there are better fits for the job.

You already know how mostly how I feel. And like I’ve said on the other applications, this is based off of my time staff so my vote means literally nothing. 

Jacon, you are one of the most amazing people I’ve met on this server. But, sometimes you can a little too caring of your reputation. Which can result in some people getting hurt. While I don’t think it’s something you do intentionally to hurt people, but telling people one thing and doing another can come off as a little bit of a people pleasing mentality. While that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but people can get the wrong idea when you do things to show you care too much what they think. 

You have always been very inconsistent with your inactivity in your admin role. That can be something different now, but in a super position, I think it’s time we get a consistent communicator and active super who knows and talks to the community in and off the game. You may have gotten the off the server part but the members who aren’t active in discord’s need a chance to see you in action and your unreliable activity is just something that is not fair to this community anymore. The server needs some love and some hard-time implementing and changes to get the community to trust a person in this role again. 

While you may not be the best candidate this time, i don’t think you’d be a bad server manager. But, you also have to be willing to show the work and activity. Be the manager you think the server deserves. Don’t be the manager for the title (not saying you are, I just wanted to end this on some sort of cool advice thing like be the grasshopper thing)

Hellooo Jacob

One of your main qualities that I've enjoyed about you is that you're about fun but can crack down when it needs to happen. During my time as staff, you constantly were teaching me things about building off the server just so when we ever had mods doing events, we weren't completely lost. I will say though, your activity has always been one of my main concerns because you are in school obviously that will be your main priority. I just hope if you do get the position, you'd follow through with what you stated in your app. While you have a lot of experience as a forum admin, and server admin I do think you'd make a great fit for the role. I will say I do agree with the others when it comes to being a people pleaser but that's something you've been trying to work on and it's shown.
