Applicants Steam ID - STEAM_0:0:77944715

(1.) Do you agree to and accept the Volunteer Staff Application Terms & Conditions? If so, please answer with "Yes, I do agree and accept these terms and conditions." - Yes, I do agree and accept these terms and conditions

(1a) What is your most recent or commonly known in-game name or alias? - Blair-121

(1b.) What is your RP Rank and Loyalty Rank? - I used to a LTJG but due to extended time away from the server my rank was lowered. After Clarification my new rank is PO1. For Loyalty I earned Champion and had Loyalty+.

(2.) In which time zone do you reside? - GMT

(2a) Please provide the hours of the day that you are the most active on the Halo RP server according to CST (Chicago, US), so the managers and staff know when they can expect to see you. - 08:00 - 22:00

(3.) What is your age? - 24

(4.) Approximately, when was the first time that you joined our Halo RP server and how did you initially discover it? - I joined the server when it first launched. Played for a while but left. Came back early June 2020 and left again for a beak after a year.

(4b.) How can we be sure you will stay active and loyal (with your time) to Star by Star? - I have been a part of the SBS community since mid 2017. I have always taken breaks here and there but have always returned to the community. I put a lot of time and effort over my span with SBS and plan to continue to do so.

(4b) Do you understand that you can be let go at any time for excessive inactivity at our discretion? - Completely

(5.) Do you understand and agree to not only comply with but also enforce the rules of the server when necessary? - Absolutely

(5a) please list and explain the main 7 server rules so we know you understand and comprehend them fully.

List Rules below

1:No Fail RP. As an RP server everything has RP rules, Fail RP would be anything that your character would not do. For example Marines flying Aircraft like they were AF, entering the SoS Ship or not following their NCO/CO's orders.
2:Be Respectful to others. Everyone is here to have a good time, don't go around causing drama or getting into fights with people or be rude.
3:No RDM. No Random Death Match so no going around base killing people on purpose or killing people during events without a valid RP reason.
4:Obey Staff and RP Leaders. As this is RP be sure to obey any commands given by RP Leaders whether this be GM's during events or NCO/CO's. Out of RP staff have the final say on things what you can and should not be doing, if staff say change your name or stop doing something there is a valid reason for it.
5:No Meta-Gaming. Don't take out of character stuff into character. For example using PAC Camera to fly around the map to find areas or people. During RP if in comms there is a message like [Closed URF] We are moving forces to the warehouses it would be fail for people to start moving to the warehouses as in character you don't have access to chat.
6:No mic/chat spam. Fairly simple one of not spaming music or loud noises down the mic as this could ruin other peoples experience. Chat spam is similar in the way of spamming the same message over and over in chat making it harder for people to use it for RP reasons.
7:Do not Avoid the AFK System. The server has a 40 minute AFK timer which is more than reasonable compared to other servers 20 minutes. Don't go AFK and set up a script to move every few minutes to reset the timer in order to get more play time and get a higher loyatly rank without actually playing.

(Pulled from previous app as I feel these are still good explanations/interpretations).

(6.) Tell us a little about yourself and why you would like to be accepted for a volunteer staffing position on SBS. - 24 Year old British Lad working as a Firefighter and Rescue Team Operative. Getting to sit down at the end of that day and RP is something that really helps with the pressures of work. I would like to be accepted as staff as I can bring coverage to a lacking timezone and do that I can to keep the player count up in downtimes. I have missed being a GM, creating new stories and events for people to enjoy.

(7.) In your opinion, what do you need to improve on the most? (qualities, skill sets) - Accepting help. I will more often than not turn away the offer of help when I am doing something in worry that if something happens then it will be out of my span of control. I like to have set plans and from previous experience it doesn't always go that way with others. I need to be more accepting time to time and explain better what my intentions are.

(8.) How would having you on the Halo staff team benefit the server and what qualities set you apart from the rest of the applicants? - I would be a returning GM that held a pretty good record for passing set quotas and being able to pull events/passives out of the air in order to cover for other staff or just kill time. I know pretty much all of the systems that are used and would be more than willing to learn anything new.

(9.) Have you ever previously maintained a game server staffing position, or currently are, on any other Garry's Mod servers? If so, which ones, and in which staffing positions? (List them if possible) - Ex  Halo GM: https://starbystargaming.com/showthread?tid=13991

(10.) Have you ever previously been banned on any Garry's Mod or SBS servers? If yes, then please list approximately when, how long, and the reasoning(s). - I have been banned twice. Both of these were on HPRP. The first was when I was a First Year about 4 years ago. I just got Verdi and was testing it, I shot it and killed a student. I left the server right away and got a 3 day ban for RDM, Freespelling and LTAP. The second ban was only for 12 hours. I was putting loads of time into the server and had been awake for around 40ish hours with no sleep. A staff member that I was good mates with gave me a 12 hour ban so I wouldn't be able to come on the server and get some sleep.

(11.) In your opinion, are the server staff or the players more important and why? - Both are as important as each other. If there were no players there would be no need for staff as they would have no need for such powers. If there were no staff then things would become stale and players would get bored, they would also have no support in the case where someone comes to minge.

(12) Please list and rate your skills out of 10 (EX patience, response time, leadership, activity, etc.) -
  • Patience: 9/10
  • Response time: I always try for an instant response but at times like event leading or sits this will be delayed. I would get it as soon as I can but would also let the person who me help know that I will be delayed.
  • Creativity:9/10
  • Teamwork 8/10

(13.) On a scale from 1 to 10, how familiar are you with Garry's Mod's default tools, context menus, and utility menus? - 9. If all the tools are the same then 10 but just in case there are any news tools that I need to play with and learn.

(14.) Please provide us with at least two detailed examples of events that you would orchestrate and how you would proceed with organizing, operating, and constructing them. -

System Wipe

A UNSC Ship/Station has encountered the Covenant. The ship/Station has failed to enact the Cole Protocol/or System Wipe. Battlegroup Three A has been sent to get aboard the ship/station, kill any contacts they find and clear the ships systems before the Covenant can pull any data. The idea of this is simple but the twist will be that the longer it takes everyone to get to the control room the more intel the Covenant will gather, the more systems it will learn and colonies they will find. This will play handy as if the UNSC is able to stop the Covenant in good time it will stop them learning about certain locations, if they take a longer time though it can lead to follow up events where the Coveneant start showing up closer to UNSC Colonies.

I would keep a timer running and would base it off the amount of players active. If there is only a small force I would allow more time than I would if there was a larger force. Depending on this misions success rate it can span out to multistages. If the UNSC forces struggle to complete their objective or fail it then they will have to try escape the Covenant. This can lead to the old home map that has the Concordia and the Hades. UNSC Crew will be engaged in ship to ship, EVA and combat on the ship. Again if UNSC get overwhelmed they may scuttle the ships and try get away in life pods leading them to another map in which they must find equipment to call for support or find transport.

This would use a range of tools to construct each and every stage but would not be massively complex. I would let everyone know OOC and Via discord before the event that this may have several stages so the give more time for it and to get an overall feel for how they may wish it to play out.

Guerilla Tactics

This one is less on an event but something I would try put in place to keep the server active. The FOB is often left unmanned for several hours a day. This is enough time for Innie, rebels or any force to set up and start doing Guerilla warfare tactics. The way this would work is small bases, NPC outposts would be set up, small missions that can be done with ease will be done while there are little to no players online. This way when the FOB starts to get troops they will have to clear areas and do patrols. The longer people are away from the FOB the larger the forces in the area will be, this will hopefully encourage people to come on before events and stay on after in order to keep the FOB secure.

For example,
1-3 hours: Basic forces in area, small outposts, a vehicle or two.
3-6 hours: Larger forces, several outposts, attacks on key areas like comms tower and IED placed are the area.
6-9 hours: Several key areas fully taken over with large camps, Attacks on the FOB and more/ heavier vehicles around the area.

This can obviously be changed to fit but it can be used for good event set ups as intel can be recovered, Higher ranking NCO's may be in the field and so on.

Operation Mech.

A new company called Sundown Technology has recently won a new tender with the UNSC to supply mechanised workers to work in highley dangerous and hostle areas carrying out things like repairs and surveys. For months these mechanised works have been rolled out across UNSC Colonies to aid workers.

Behind the Scenes of Sundown Technology, a shell company for the anti UNSC group, Project Horizon (a OC group I created to bring new stories) are making changes to these peaceful mechs.

A handful of these mechanised workers have been deployed to work in the city, repairing key infrastructure and so on.

Screams and the sound of rifles crackle in the distance not far from our FOB. A squad is sent to investigate and they find a mach loader (mech to move boxes) some UNSC supplies, blood everywhere and bullet cases litter the floor. Several dead UNSC marines lay scattered and dismembered across the floor near an underground entrance.

The squad goes underground to investigate but loses comms signal right away. As they push into the tunnels they find one of these Mechs in sleep mode. As they approach and investigate it turns back on and attacks the squad. Turns out the most recent Mechs weren't made to help farmers but to kill UNSC.

The squad and either flee try destroy the mech, they are unable to call for any support. This can either stay as a simple passive or can lead into a series of events where Battlegroup 3a need to stop Sundown Technologies for creating anymore death mechs.

(15.) Do you have any prior experience using ULX administrative system or sandbox building on Garry's Mod? - Yes had a lot of experience from previous GMing.

(16.) You both understand and realize, that by applying for a volunteer staffing position on the server, you are sacrificing the complete freedom of being able to role-play and or socialize freely all the time without any interruptions, and are obligated to handle all server issues and or volunteer staff position tasks at hand no matter the situation and to the best of your abilities? - Completely understand.

(17.) Please provide a list of all previous volunteer staff applications, provide a link to them if possible, and list any reasons why they may have been locked. If they were previously accepted, please provide a short explanation of why you are no longer volunteer staff at the time of this application. (Disregard if this is your first application) - https://starbystargaming.com/showthread?tid=13991

I understand I have only recently came back to the server but I do wish to return to GMing as it is something I have missed and really wish to do again.

Althought me and blair didn’t always mesh, I won’t let that affect the fact that Blair was a great GM and I believe he’d be a great addition back onto the team due to his skills, story telling abilities and experience.

I understand that your rank is up in the air at the moment, as you've only just returned, however you should be more specific in question 1b. I may have missed a change but as far as I am aware you're SCPO (or possibly MCPO) in game now. Until the situation is stable, you should either be clear about all the possibilities (PO3, CPO, SCPO, MCPO, LTJG, Whatever it may be), or list your current in game rank.

I mostly note this because, unless something has changed and you've been given another rank jump to LTJG since yesterday when you were an SCPO, only listing LTJG appears to be a misleading summary

Hi Lexa. Yeah I understand how that does come across. I was given the LTJG rank on the 26th of April by Rocky and I left not too long after that. When I came back Klaus spoke to me making me aware of my demotion due to time away. I asked what am I dropping to and Klaus said whatever is just below officer. I said I think SCPO or MCPO and Klaus agreed. I put it as SCPO until I checked which one was actually just below and saw it was MCPO so changed it to fit what I was told.

I thought the way I answered was clear but thank you for pointing out how it can be misconstrued so I'll change it so make it clearer, apologies about the confusion that caused.

From my short time with Blair he’s a good lad and is pretty calm. So I see this as a absolute win :>

#7
I participated in an on map event hosted by Blair, and it was very enjoyable. It was only one example, but it was well above the standards I'm used to on the server. I look forward to seeing more events from you. +1

I agree with what the others have said. Blair did well as a Gamemaker in the past, and I'm sure he'd do well again. Ever since Blair has come back, he's been willing to step up, and has showed that he is more then capable being a Gamemaker again.

Good Luck.
