Applicants Steam ID - STEAM_0:1:182282709

(1.) Do you agree to and accept the Volunteer Staff Application Terms & Conditions? If so, please answer with "Yes, I do agree and accept these terms and conditions." -
Yes, I do agree and accept these terms and conditions.

(1a) What name and or alias are you most commonly known as within the SBS community? -
  Myranda Novaknight-Aeternalis or Panda

(1b.) What is your age? -25

(2.) Which volunteer community staff position is your application for? - Hogwarts RP Staff Manager

(3.) Approximately, when was the first time that you joined our community and how did you initially discover it? - I joined around October 2016 when an IRL friend told me about the RP server and I fell in love with it ever since I first got on.

(4.) Community staff are held to a much higher standard both in general and with activity when compared to standard game server staff. In this case, do you understand that you can be let go at any time for excessive inactivity at our discretion? - I do understand.

(4a) How can we be certain that you will remain active on the server upon being accepted for a volunteer staffing position? - I’ve been staff for 3 years and admin for 2 years and during this time  I’ve been active and have communicated with management whenever I needed LOA or Low Activity. There has never been any concern of activity communicated to me by either management, staff or even community members.

(5.) Tell us a little about yourself and why you would like to be accepted for a volunteer staffing position on SBS. (100 words or less) - Hello I’m Myranda, also known as Panda to a lot of people I’ve been an admin for 2 years and I always love coming up with new ways to have everyone, staff and community members included, to enjoy the server whether it’s clarifying rules, doing mock trials or coming up with fun passive events including our annual SBS Awards as an example.

(6.) In your opinion, which quality of yourself do you feel that you need to improve on the most? -

There are 2 qualities that I would like to cover:
Confidence: This would probably be my biggest quality I could work on. I tend to go up and down with my confidence in myself in being able to handle certain situations from being overly confident to being a bit anxious and unsure.  It's something that I’ve been working on everyday and I’m always open to taking open professional criticisms and feedback on how I could do better with it.

Strictness/Hard-headed: I’d like to think to myself that I’m not strict and I feel like I’m actually more laid back, however I know that I can be a stickler to certain rules. I try my best to be understanding in every situation I come across but I know for myself that I can be a little hard headed to change my mind on a particular ruleset, especially if it’s being swayed to change. I’m used to things staying the same, but I do my best to be open and receptive to other ideas that can make our community better.

(6a) In your opinion, which skill set of yours do you feel that you need to improve on the most? -

Procrastination: Probably my biggest downfall in skills, I tend to wait for things at the very last minute and most of the time it works out fine, however it can be stressful and unsuccessful to procrastinate certain situations. For example- with the mock trials that I currently hold, I usually wait until the day before to post pairings but I’ve been working a bit harder to gather staff who can be available those days to help out so that things aren’t just rushed and are more organized.

(7.) How would having you on our volunteer staff team benefit our community and what qualities set you apart from the rest of the applicants? -

There's a couple of things I’d like to think that set me apart from others for this position.

Time in the Community: I have been in the community for 5 years and staff team for 3 years like I previously stated, so I’ve seen how the community works, how the staff team works and what hasn’t worked in the past.

Dedication: Tying into what I previously stated, since I've been on the team for such a long time, it shows my dedication to not only the staff team but the community that I'm here to stay and to help in whichever way that I'm able to.

Honesty: I'd like to say that when being asked my opinion on certain topics I'm very open and like to explain my thoughts and ideas with others. I feel like this is something I've worked on tremendously over the past few years because I use to be very reserved and I use to not speak out much on issues or suggestions in general. I think It's important for someone in a manager position to be able to speak up when needed to and to help spread ideas and suggestions and in order to do that you need to be honest about how you feel towards what's going on, even if it may not be a popular opinion or someone else may not like it.

For things that I’m doing now as an admin that set me apart:

I’ve created and continued to do Staff Mock Trials

-With the mock trials I feel like it’s something that I’m very proud of for starting up on the server. It gives players an opportunity to show staff how they would do if they got accepted as either moderator or gamemaker and gives them a chance to work closely with a current staff member and receive personal feedback. Players and staff have come to me and stated how they enjoy doing trials and how much it helps them out

Staff Meetings

-I also have run staff meetings and even though most staff can run a meeting I feel like It’s important to know how to address your whole team and to answer questions and be able to provide insight on things going on in the community and I believe that I do that very well.

There are of course things that I’d like to do once I become staff manager which include:

Mock Trials:
I’d continue doing mock trials, however, I’d like to make it mandatory for applicants to complete at least one mock trial before they are considered to be brought on to the team. I feel like this will be beneficial and show staff that they are serious about the position. It also gives the applicant themselves an opportunity to try the position they are applying for and gives them time to reflect if it’s something they want or if they choose a different path.

Community Meetings:
This is something I feel is brought up in most applications but it’s never executed. I’d like to do community meetings at least once a month and utilize my staff to be able to answer community members' questions and concerns while I observe. I’d be there to take on community suggestions and feedback as well. I’d like for community meetings to run smoothly with lots of communication on both ends.

Staff Activity:
Even though I had stated that strictness was something I felt I needed to improve on, I’d like to be stricter on this. I feel like activity is important to keep track of because it shows your commitment and dedication to the team. I know it’s been difficult in the past to keep track of different staff members' activity but one idea I’d like to try is some sort of “clock in” system. Something simple in either a document or a new channel in discord that would simply be a “I’m hopping on the server” “I’m hopping off the server” so that once every couple weeks I can look over everyone's activity to see how everyone is doing. Obviously, this is something that may not work well but it’s something I’d definitely be up for trying.

Group Meetings:
This was something that was mentioned in Justin's application which I wasn’t sure if it was ever executed but I’d love to be able to do it. Just like overall staff and admin meetings, I’d like to include different meetings for moderators and gamemakers to go over important information that mainly includes them and be able to receive feedback about the other groups without fear of retaliation or not enough confidence. I feel like this would help everyone on the team feel more connected with more times to be able to talk in smaller groups.

Feedback:
Once a staff member has completed their trial period, whether it be admin/mod/gm and such a lot of times their efforts go downhill or it doesn’t really matter much now that they are no longer on trial. What I’d like to do as staff manager is every 3 months or so, bring up to fellow staff and ask for feedback on said staff member to pass along. For example if John Doe became an admin officially in January, I’d like to get feedback from the team on how they are continuing to do in March. This way I can pass along feedback and concerns to different staff members so that everyone can work on things that they need to improve, because no one is perfect and not everyone feels comfortable giving direct feedback to certain people due to mainly retaliation. I believe that this will give staff some insight on how they continue to staff and if they are beginning to steer in the wrong direction, their team can guide them back. This doesn’t necessarily mean that if said staff member receives feedback if they don’t improve they will be demoted, but it gives them something to work towards.

(8.) Have you ever previously maintained a game server staffing position, or currently are, on any other Garry's Mod servers? If so, which ones, and in which staffing positions? (List them if possible) - I’m currently an Admin now on SBS Hogwarts RP.

(9) How would you rate your skills overall out of 10 (E.g., patience, response time, etc.) -

Patience: 8/10
I would like to say that I’m very patient and willing to listen to issues brought to my attention so that I can fully know what I’m about to do with all the information given to me, whether it was given to me in a calm or angered manner. I say 8 because there are definitely times with certain situations that I feel like I lose my patience a little bit, whether it be a certain type of call or a certain player- but I do my best to not let it affect my judgement.

Response Time: 9/10
I’d like to think that I’m very responsive on server and also off server. I’m very quick to DMs and questions that others have. There are times my mind might be preoccupied and I may miss something but very rarely. In question with off server- I usually am always quick to answer unless I’m sleeping or working.

Organization: 9/10
I’d like to say I’m pretty organized. Some examples of my organizational skills would be my mock trial discord which I created to keep feedback/sign ups/pairings more organized. I’ve also made prefect meeting guides/teacher meeting guides and I’ve done bulletins and other types of announcements as well that show my organizational skills.

Approachability: 10/10
I’d like to say that I’m a very approachable person and I always tell everyone that my messages are open and I can be talked to about anything even if it's just to vent to. I want others to feel comfortable being able to talk to me about anything as if i was a close friend.

Professionalism: 7/10
I’d like to think that I’m professional, however I know the way I talk can tend to be more on the easy going side or I tend to talk to people as if they’re my friends when sometimes I need to be talking to people in a more professional manner, especially with my typing it can come off as sarcastic and sassy in a way.

Activity: 8/10
I like to think that I’m active on the server, I meet the requirement of hours I’m supposed to be on the server, however it could always be more. I’m not perfect, no one is but I definitely do my best to be as active as I can be on the server!

(10.) Provide a couple of examples of situations or issues you may encounter and how you would handle them in the position you are applying for -

There's a staff report on the forums
If I notice that someone has reported a staff member there's a couple of ways I could handle this situation:

If there's no evidence but a clear description of what happened- I’d like to still talk to the player and see if I can just be a listening ear to their distress about the staff member. Sometimes all that can help is just being listened to. Obviously though, with no evidence there’s not much farther we would be able to take the problem.

If there is evidence of wrongdoing I’d talk to each party separately to explain what has happened that led up to what was in either video or screenshots. Depending on the scenario I’d handle it to my discretion and take the steps into providing the correct disciplinary action.

Staff are arguing with each other on the server or openly in discord channels

I would de-escelate the situation like I would if it were two players having an argument and ask both staff to talk to me together to explain frustrations and disagreements to see if we can come to an understanding. Once things settle down I would tell the staff members that while it’s okay to disagree it's not okay to openly argue because it makes the team itself look like we can’t work together to solve problems. Not everyone has to be friends, but we must be able to work together to provide a healthy and fun environment for the community. Depending on how often the arguing would continue in the future could lead to disciplinary actions.

Staff leaking
Leaking has always been a serious issue on the team. I’d like to announce to the team that if the leaker comes forward there would be lesser consequences such as a warning or a suspension. However, if I found out who the leaker is and they haven’t come forward themselves it would be a demotion. I want my staff team to be honest with me, if someone is honest with a mistake they’ve made, we can work around it and I can feel confident they won’t do it again.

Staff drama and toxicity
This is something that I’ve seen occur in the team over the years I’ve been on staff. There’s either drama within the team itself or just with certain community members or groups. Like I’ve stated earlier, not everyone has to like each other. We’re all human, there are going to be people that we dislike and don’t get along with. However, If I'm a staff manager I’m not going to tolerate toxicity. All it creates is hate and drama and we’re on the server to have a good time. Depending how extreme the situation was, I would talk to said staff and give a stern and clear warning that if they continue they would be removed from the team and if they wish to apply in the future they must work on themselves to be more compatible to work with. Granted, this also depends on how toxic the drama is because every situation is different.

Staff Activity
Like I stated earlier, I would like to crack down on activity a bit better. I’d like to take a look every 2 weeks at where everyone is at so I can have an idea of how activity is. If I notice that someone is below the requirement I’d keep a close eye for another week cause I know that everyone has stuff going on and they may let their activity slip a bit which happens to the best of us. If activity doesn’t improve I’d talk to said staff about improving activity or going on LOA if needed. And if it still doesn’t get better then I’d like to bring them down to a trial and in order to regain their full abilities back they would have to pass trial again. For example, if an admin was having this bad of activity they would go down to trial admin and so forth. If they failed the trial they would be removed from the team for inactivity and have to apply again later when they improve.

(11.) If applicable, please provide a list of all your previous volunteer staff applications, provide a link to them if possible, and list any reasons why they may have been locked. If they were previously accepted, please provide a short explanation of why you are no longer volunteer staff at the time of this application. (Disregard if this is your first application) -

Applied for Moderator in 2018 on the old forums- was accepted and I have been on the team since. Link not available

Last Note: I’d like to thank everyone for reading this application and I’m open to feedback and criticism on how I can improve myself to better help our community whether it be on here or in my DMs. If you wish to DM my discord is MyrandaPANDA11#8370. Thank you !

I've been aware of you trying to set yourself up for this position ever since a mutual acquaintance suggested it to you if the position were to ever come up. Back when that suggestion was made, I would have probably been more positive. I've taken stock of what you've been doing since then.

Positives
  • Consistently active
  • Hosts mock trials which can be the push people need to apply or get to know staff
  • Helped Ariel with the yearly awards ceremony
  • Been on the staff team a while
  • Knows how to build and train others

Negatives
  • Stubborn to a fault
  • Very combative over simple suggestions
  • Creates drama
  • Says things she immediately regrets, then feels bad about for days/weeks/eternity without addressing it
  • Not easy going, it's as if you're stepping on glass around her
  • Strict
  • Doesn't apologize when she's conceivably in the wrong
  • Doesn't give feedback in an effective manner
  • Attempts to put people down
  • Dismissive
  • Makes grandiose assumptions without proper investigation
  • Along with the previous point, doesn't reach out
  • Doesn't take scripting reports seriously
  • She's a fighter, but comes across as being hostile at all times
  • Seems like she is entitled to certain social privileges
  • Players generally dislike her
  • I once asked for an apology from her and still haven't received so much as a DM in almost 2 months
  • Records things that didn't happen
  • Watches over, questions, and comments on everything you do. This wouldn't be as much of a negative if you weren't generally hostile in how you phrase things.
    • Example: I gave a crossbow to someone as Hagrid, and you wanted to know the RP reason to why this person got a crossbow, and it came across as if you considered it a restricted item. In contrast, if Jacob wants to know why Hagrid has a crossbow, he'll ask what kind of cool things I'm planning or simply trusts that I have something in the works, and probably reaches out to get involved. Your phrasing can use a lot of work.
Overall, I feel that if you got this position at this time, we would be worse off. You have a lot you need to work on, in regards to your staffing and in-game behavior (as I've heard you are a lovely person outside of SBS), to be considered for this position.

neutral to heavy -1 at this time

Edit: I wouldn't be able to go to her with concerns about other staff members without it blowing up in my face. I've also been seeing evidence of her courting or at least paying lipservice to older staff members since this application opened. This ties back into the entitlement of social privileges point I mentioned, so it comes at no surprise. I was also messaged privately by Myranda, as she stated below, and she said what I put here is bias... but she needs to realize she can only argue that I am being bias when things I've written are unfair. If anything, I've held back on what I could have said and what is here is very fair.

to further summarize why I am going full -1, You have a huge lack of approachability and open-mindedness and are too quick to react without considering both sides. Even if I did go to you with a complaint about another staff member that is serious, I feel you would be either dismissive or in an attempt to show you are proactive, you would be too quick to react and wouldn't put in the effort or time to gather needed perspective. Staff members have also described that you are very full of yourself and when you are online, as if whenever they're around you they need to kiss your ring, but off-server you are very pleasant.

Changing my vote to a full -1.

P.S. Other viable applicants should beware, I feel she will attempt to drag your name or image down to make herself seem like a more appealing candidate

-1 I agree with Con. You say you want to stop toxicity and drama in your application but throughout my experiences with you, you've been one of the worst players/staff members involved with drama. You also make judgments on people without knowing the full story and insist that your opinion is the only right opinion. You're known to be very involved in the harassment and bullying of other players. Strong personal opinion: I think you're really still only a staff member because you have/had friends in high places who turn a blind eye to your issues.

Good luck.

I apologise Myranda but you are one of the only people I wouldn’t consider or support for this role; and I believe if you got this position more damage would be caused than positives. By no means are we on bad terms or have we had an issues but since I joined the server you are one of a few staff members who I have seen literally nothing of (apart from that one week a month you become active for mock trials), I understand my play time this week has been terrible for a week 3 trial but that’s for a later time. For a while it seemed you literally only got on the server to spawn a dupe of a house and then you would just gossip or socialise and would only take sits if it was really needed from you; they seemed more of an inconvenience. You’re someone that has so much power and say right now in the staff team but you also seem to be one of people staff and players see the least. It feels like you honestly only retain such position at the moment due to longevity on the team and community and I think a whole step back and recollection of character is needed.
I get people work and have irl commitments etc I’m someone who’s limited on play time and versatility due to this also but I don’t think you’ve ever really communicated why you’re never rly there unless you’re off to see Enzoe.

Overall I’m a big -1 here.

Sorry but after seeing some of your behavior you're not fit for this type of role.

You've shown that you refuse to listen to peoples opinions if you think you're right, you make it very very clear that you don't like someone with your attitude towards them and you refuse to listen to feedback about yourself and work on the issues.
If you become staff manager with those behaviors I believe that there would end up being some serious issues within the staff team and the community.

Spoiler: Before Reading

My personal interactions
Myranda has always been helpful and worked hard. Although my interactions have only been playing a bit of games in the past, most recent stuff I been out of touch.

The Past
I been staffing with you for awhile now, you haven't to my knowledge have anything concerning I can recollect on, which is definitely a good thing. You didn't get into drama very much back then either.

The Concerns
Most of the concerns I have are not related or pertaining to me. I won't repeat what others have brought up or mentioned, but I would definitely need to see a reply to these other concerns that were brought up.

Oh I forgot to mention, if you decide to crackdown on activity, this will most 100% backfire on you as it did for me. Treat this as a warning for your sake, people will get very very angry if you try to enforce it. That was the #1 thing that got me demoted.

Sorry I couldn't say much more, for now you seem like a safe choice. Until you respond and more time has passed, I will hold my vote.

Hello Myranda!

I’d like to generally state that I have no issues with you at all, nor do I dislike you.

I haven’t been as active as I once was, but I have noticed a large change in your attitude. I remember when I was first on the sever in November of 2020 you were super nice and approachable and you’d always joke around with the players in OOC. But recently you seem to be giving many people the cold shoulder, I’m not saying you are rude, you just seem hostile and, as stated by others, strict.

I adore mock trials and how you want to help people get to understand what it’s like to be staff, and I’ve even had them with you and enjoyed them.

I agree with Con, if this position had come out a while ago and you applied I would be happy to see you on, but now I’m not so sure.

I’m sorry but it’ll be a -1

Sorry, but I agree with the other minus one's. I, personally, don't think you're ready to be the Staff Manager, like others have stated, you can be aggressive, and hearing what Con said, is a concern, especially for someone who is applying for Staff Manager.

I’m on my phone so the response may look a little off and I do apologize.
I’ve reached out to everyone and addressed concerns they’ve had however I wanted to make a summary reply on here for everyone else to see.
To address some common concerns that I’ve seen;
Stated about activity, I’ve explained that I’ve been fairly active on the server my time zone is usually a bit later in the evening so I can understand if some people don’t quite see me as often.
For those who have concerns about my attitude: some common ones would seem that I brush people off or seem hostile and I just want to state that I’m sorry if it ever comes off that way, I never intend to sound hostile to anyone ever or want to put others down in anyway at all. All I want to do is bring people up and be a listening ear to those who need it. One thing I’ve explained is sometimes I can be too focused on a certain thing going on , either it be a conversation or some sort of event I’m doing that I can understand if it seems that I can come off in a different way. It’s definitely not an excuse so I do apologize about that and will be a bit more observant on how I come across to others.
Thank you to those who have given feedback, I will work on your concerns and hopefully I can prove myself to everyone that I’m fit for this position.
If anyone has any questions please feel free to message me

If I recall correctly, you were the first staff member I befriended within this community. I've known you only as someone who wants to create a fun atmosphere for those on the server.

During my time as staff you were one of the admins I looked up to, and would often seek guidance from when something bothered me or got under my skin. Some of these times we would even have differing opinions, but you never held them against me, or treated me different because of them.

I think you'd make a great staff manager, if you put your all into it. My only concern is activity, as I would love to see Hogwarts have two managers on regularly ♥️
