So question about everyone who paid for custom jobs and VIP in hogwarts RP, will we get those back in this new rp server or we just have to pay again for the VIP, new custom jobs and everything?

It all stays and is just renamed, some VIP jobs were unfortunately taken out as they were directly linked to HP but I think some have new models! :)

I'm not an attorney by any means, but am I not wrong when saying you could have kept everything pretty much 95% the same and only done slight changes to make it "Harry Potter- but not quite"?

Examples:
Hufflepuff = Hufflepug
Slytherin = Slitheredin
Gryffindor = Griffindoor
Ravenclaw = Ravenlore
Hogwarts = Hogward's

And all of the player-models and the map would already be fair-use as they were custom made, so they wouldn't need to be changed at all (other than the names).

It wouldn't be copyright infringement if you slightly changed everything, and it'd still essentially be a Harry Potter RP server.

I just got on Gmod hoping to jump on some SBS, I spent 1000s of hours on the server and was an Admin at one point, so you can imagine my sadness and disappointment when I saw no HogwartsRP section, and 0/50 players on the new 'Galaxy of Magic' server.

I think it is a huge loss of potential entirely rebranding the server when you could have gotten away with a 'malicious-compliance' type of thing and only slightly changed everything, so it didn't infringe on any copyrights.

This server was the only reason I hopped on Gmod every once and a whole, and now it's completely dead.

What a waste.

Edit:
I just got on the server and checked out the map. No wonder nobody is playing on here anymore. The map is terrible, but considering you made it in such a short amount of time I can see why.
You could have kept the old map and slightly changed everything, and honestly you probably didn't even need to do that, you custom-made the map yourselves so it was already fair-use.
I understand that even if you 110% knew everything on the server was fair use, you still wouldn't want to get in a legal battle with Warner Bros because they would bleed you dry with legal fees even though they would 100% lose the case, but god damn is this depressing.

Rest easy, king. You gave me 1000s of hours of entertainment and now you're gone because of some big Corporations' greed. I guess a server with 200 players was a threat to their multi-billion dollar company. Pathetic.

(the map called "rp_feudal" is from the workshop, the other map we tend to use was made in a very short time, the proper map which is intended to be used is still in the works and is anticipated)

Guy said this: "Unfortunately, Facepunch isn't going to allow parodies or anything too similar, it's not worth the risk and they've already shut down several servers who have tried."

Okay, well hopefully the completed map is good. I'm sorry but the one I saw was just so bleak and depressing, but I guess that's to be expected with a map made so quickly.

One change I personally would like to see is to have the map be shrunk down a little bit. Both my friend and I played on SBS back when it was on the original small Hogwarts map, and honestly, we preferred that one over the new map because it was much smaller and thus much easier to find people to interact with on it. I remember the stairs that lead to outside was where people would always hang out, it was like the hang out spot and you could always find people there. However, with the new map, it was so big that most of the time it was hard to find anybody, and the map felt really empty a lot of the time.

I think somewhere between the size of the original map and the new map would be optimal. Big enough to feel like there's a lot of things to explore, but not so big that it's hard to find people and feels empty. Just my opinion, though.

I guess there's no point fighting a multi-billion-dollar company legally even if the servers aren't infringing on their copyrights at all.
"under section 41A of the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth), it is a defence to copyright infringement if the material is used in fair dealing for the purpose of parody or satire."
Parody servers would be 100% legal, but I guess Facepunch just doesn't want to risk it.

Also, I would definitely like to join those parody servers to see what they did. They've clearly failed to separate themselves far enough from the IP. (ex: map with Hogwarts insignia on it, house names too similar, etc.)
