Gina Governatore - Staff Manager Application I

(1.) What is your SteamID and your Steam URL? -
 STEAM_0:1:90890134

(1a) What is your most common name for the SBS community? -

Gina Governatore

(1b.) How old are you? -

18

(2.) What position are you applying for? -
Staff Manager [HWRP]

(3.) When did you first join our server and how did you discover it? -

Discovered it two-ish years ago via YouTube.

(4.) Community staff must be active at a higher standard when compared to staff, do you understand that you may be let go for inactivity? -

I do

(5.) Tell us about yourself and why you want to be staff on SBS? (100 words or less) -

I've been HWRPGamemaker on multiple occasions: In the past, I've been demoted for taking insubordinate steps to do what I perceived as the right thing.
Much has been learned, on my part, of what to do and what not to do in a staff position.

The community has in the past offered me ample support in my Gamemaker endeavors, I'm confident I could serve them better as Staff Manager.

It defies belief: the nature of things that inevitably reach the Staff Manager's ear, requiring action. This I have come to know, and am prepared for should the community have me.

(6.) What do you feel you need to improve on the most? -

-Providing comments that are not constructive.
With respect to the building/construction of other staff, I have in the past been very vocal about how I feel about them. This is no longer a problem at all though, and this criticism is not recurring.

-Illegal trafficking of memes/involvement in the drama.
Well, I've stopped. Wouldn't be a Gamemaker if I hadn't.
In the deep deep past, I've chosen to satirize others through memes, mostly using their own words. Much has been learned. The behavior is awfully unbecoming anyway.

I will say though, I've learned quite a lot from staffing for so long.
Perhaps, too much. It has been and continues to be an experience.

(7.) How would having you on staff benefit our server and what sets you apart from the rest of the applicants? -

-I've seen many staff managers. That's always good: as it gives you a reference
for what to do and what not to do (what the managers were praised/faulted for).

-I understand what the player base expects and wants from a staff team:
consistency, fairness/impartiality, activity, resource efficiency, etc.

-It would be delightfully unprecedented for a Gamemaker to be made Staff Manager.

(8.) Have you been staff/are currently on any other servers? If so, which ones? (List them if possible) -
Just this one

(9.) How would you rate your skills overall out of 10 (EX: Patience, response time, etc) -

Fairness/Impartiality

I apply the rules to everyone equally when I have to (e.g when there are little to no disciplinary staff and I have to help out... which is often!)
People often assume that Gamemakers never really have to exhibit fairness or impartiality since they don't make the same decisions moderators do.
This cannot be further from the truth. Gamemakers do have to act as moderators often and thus have a responsibility to act fairly, follow the same guidelines etc.

Dedication/Determination - 10
I thought I'd include this due to community members recognizing... something, in the past. See response to Q10
Never really looked at it that way, but, yes. I suppose if something good could be said about me it's that I am 'determined'.

Patience - 8
As much as I abhor mod-sits, I do see their importance. During sits, I'm generally polite and eager to do what I'm supposed to.
However, if the person is impolite, or loud: all informality will be thrown out the window and my approach will become much more rigid, to the point, but... patient.
I will speak slowly and clearly, make sure the person understands to ensure a resolution is met.

Communication - 9.9
Outside of occasionally forgetting to give staff notice when I disconnect in @ chat, I've not received much criticism about not communicating effectively.
From my experience, I can understand the extreme importance of speaking with staff members, seeing how they are fairing. We may often feel tempted to steer clear
of communicating or offering criticism out of fear of judgment or the desire to remain quiet and impartial. That, methinks, would be the recipe for a cold and distant staff manager.

Honesty - 9
I rarely make attempts to hide how I feel about important stuff (e.g the work and proclivities of fellow staff members).
This has created some problems in the past, however. Much has been learned.

Adaptability - 10
Would I be a Gamemaker still had I not learned to adapt, change, and accommodate?

Manners - 8
Fellow staff members have offered me the advice that sometimes cheeky snarkiness can sometimes be blown way out of proportion or strike people the wrong way.
Most people, however, from my experience, perceive me as well-mannered.
I detest those that lack good manners, and my approach to them is much less informal and relaxed to those who possess good manners.
It makes sense, actually, looking back. My critique of fellow staff members in the past was most certainly 'unconstructive', and, well, that's sort of rude.
I can actually empathize with them, after all: I've certainly had criticism laid against me in ways that have been... well, anything but polite.
You begin to appreciate the value of good manners when they aren't extended to you. This I understand full well.

(10.) Please make a list of all previous staff applications, a link to them, and the reason they were locked. If you are no longer Staff on any SBS server(s), please give a short explanation of why you are no longer staff. (Disregard if this is your first application) -

GM App VII -  Accepted

GM App VI - Locked for hitting 30 day mark ↑
GM App IV - Requested thread lock. ↑
GM App III - Locked due to my creation of disparaging memes. ↑
GM App II - Locked as requested, it was approaching the 30 day mark. ↑
GM App I - Locked for hitting 30 day mark ↑

(11.) (Optional) Provide examples of situations you would handle in the position you are applying for here and how you would handle them. -

EXAMPLE ONE - Two staff members are getting into a disagreement that is causing a stir within the community.
i. Determine if anything 'seriously wrong' has been done (e.g potentially criminal conduct, or unconscionable conduct that is morally repugnant, see: https://starbystargaming.com/showthread?tid=8023) dispense with immediate demotion and alert other community staff for further advice/follow up.
If the conduct fails the 'seriously wrong' test proceed to next step.
ii. Audi Alteram Partem - Let both sides be heard. Hear what both staff members have to say about the situation, confront both of them about it separately and as quickly as possible.
iii. Determine if fault can be applied to one or both parties. That is to say:
are they just vocally arguing about nonsense or has something wrong been done?
iv. Apply fault if appropriate, then dispense with punishment (warning, demotion, whatever is appropriate). If fault cannot be applied and the agreement is caused by careless frivolity/pettiness: instruct staff members (both, not separately) to immediately cut it out and dispense with immediate punishment to any party that fails (to cut it out).

EXAMPLE TWO A community member or staff member approaches me, claiming a specific staff member has done something wrong (Abuse or otherwise). They provide evidence.
i. Examine evidence immediately: if extremely damaging instruct/warn the community member to not proliferate the evidence.
If the evidence does not definitively prove wrongdoing: the staff member is innocent, no punishment will occur, though questioning and further investigation may if appropriate.
ii. If the evidence does prove wrongdoing: let the staff member be heard. What do they have to say for themselves?
iii. If the staff member cannot provide a reasonable excuse, dispense with punishment applying fault to the staff member before doing so (explaining what they did wrong, why it is not allowed, citing written guidelines where appropriate).

EXAMPLE THREE A staff member is not meeting quotas (activity, events).
i. Issue a caution and list of expectations ('You have failed to provide one-two events per week, will you be able to improve? Y/N).
ii. If the individual can not meet the expectations, then, like any other staff member: they will be demoted summarily unless they can provide reasonable excuse (BEFOREHAND, not after being cautioned... e.g saying 'Oh yes I will do X amount of events on this week' and then, come to the end of that week saying 'Oh, sorry but I had to do X, Y, Z which I could have very easily told you of before').
You know that food addon I was pushing for?
Let's just pretend I never did that c:

Gina your a very good Gm and a great person

but sometimes you can take it a bit far with your attitude, and in the past is going to effect you greatly tho im not saying its going to effect you fully but it just might will and i know time zone is an issue because you play when everyone is dead and when no one else is on.

Good luck with your application!!

Surely this is a joke? I shouldn't even need to write this down. I am going to be made fun of for writing this, but I really couldn't give a bigger shit. You have been the head of drama for so long. You went out of your way to target and harass people directly involved and those who were friends with them, and you are most likely still doing it. I have had to report you so many times after you got staff for your constant passive aggresive behavior and targeting specific people. You are toxic and manipulative, and you should never be let into a high position in any community if you don't grow up.

Gina is a great GM very creative and involved in the community. He has shown that even in difficult times where he faced allot of backlash for past drama that he can self reflect and move on. For me it comes down to how fits the requierments for positon best and currently I think that there are other Community Members (that probably will also apply) how fit the requierments a little bit better.

Good luck with you'r Application!

You’re a good GM, great even, but I really don’t believe you have the necessary leadership skills, bearing, tact, and judgement for this community staff position.

Good luck!

First of all I actually read the app and I do not agree on what others said in their statements. I do believe people can change and the past is surely in the past.

That being said I still gotta vote -1 for now

My reasons are simple, you're at your best as GM and with the events you create we'd miss a good spot there as you might be more pre-occupied with staff manager things.

My second reason is that I think there are better candidates out there. It's just personality traits that I think fit a staff manager and even tho you're a very smart lad and have a good way of viewing things I don't think the position is fit for you.

On a side note is that I don't know you too well to give an honest rating so if there isn't anyone else I think that would be better at this position applying then I'm going to change to my vote to Neutral to be completely fair.

I believe you can definetly do it, you can do everything you want. I just don't think its the right move.

Gina of course you’ve had a bad past, everyone has, and some still hold it against you which tbh I can’t exactly tell them not to. I feel like although you are one of the best GMs the community has had despite this harassment thing I don’t think you would be able to do a fully good job at Staff Manager and wouldn’t know about Mods and that.

Good luck.

Gina Has so much potential but others bring up his past imperfections and resolved issues,
the past is in the past, let it fuckin be.
Gina can server the server with a lot of purpose and determination if given the spot staff manager.
