Alexei Smirnoff Name Appeal

#1
(1) What is your current ingame name and SteamID? - Alexei Kriskov STEAM_0:0:32868593

(2) What is the name you are requesting? - Alexei Smirnoff

(3) Why is this name not allowed by the Hogwarts staff? - Referencing a character from Stranger Things.  Smirnoff was the characters nickname.

(3a) If you remember the name of the staff member that requested you to change your name, who was it? - Originally was Sean, I asked for a second opinion and Enzoe, Roman, Heinrich, and Satia came as well.  They were all pretty borderline on whether it was allowed or not.  In the end it was decided that I couldn't because if you google the name all the pictures were of him.

(4) Why should this name be allowed? - Currently name rules allow players to use partial names as long as you are not referencing the character, which I haven't.  The character's surname is never mentioned so I couldn't directly reference him anyways.  Also googling just the name Alexei at this point in time only brings up pictures of him as well.

I'm neutral on this.
I don't watch stranger things and I don't know the characters so /shrug. I don't see a problem with the name though.

That name is too close to an ex famous professional wrestler. Michel Lamarche was a Canadian professional wrestler, known by his ringnames Alexis Smirnoff (that is what it says online). I don't the name should be allowed.

@Tina Bubberducky It is too close to a ex famous professional wrestler's name, that is the reason why I think it shouldn't be allowed.

@Reggie Riptide It states it online, it is still a ex famous professional wrestler (they are still famous) and looking it online gives you a better input whether I think the name should be allowed or not and I personally think it shouldn't be allowed as it's a famous name.

Ask 10 random people I doubt they know who it is.

Just because you watch a show doesn't mean everyone watches it.

The name rules are stupid as it stands and slightly referencing a lesser known character

Besides Alexei Smirnoff is not his real name. The name is Dr.Alexei and the nickname is Smirnoff so Alexei Smirnoff is technically a different name.

Last Name+Nickname

Quite a stretch to not allow this and it doesn't hurt the server.

Yes, as Tina stated the name is Alexei Smirnoff not Alexis.  As well, just for arguments sake, even if I had the name you are saying I had to search for the wrestler you are speaking of to even find out who they are.  Alexis Smirnoff was some obscure Canadian wrestler from the 1970's and is dead now.  Someone's name being close to some irrelevant person in today's time, who wrestled in the 70's and is dead now shouldn't be an issue.  Let alone it not being the same name in the first place.

Edit for Jack: I just checked your name on Google and it comes up with all things about Jack Skellington and Nightmare Before Christmas.  Going by your own logic, your name wouldn't be allowed either..

Did you know that information before looking it up? Does anybody really know that information without a google search. Just because it says they were a famous somebody at one time, doesn’t mean they’re widely known. I always allowed “famous” names if it was someone I or multiple other staff members had never heard of. Be that as it may, as the other had posted above me it’s not even the same name being referenced. Also as Reggie stated the name is a combination of his name plus the nickname that was given to him. Unless name rules have become very strict since I was a staff member, I see zero reason as to why this shouldn’t be allowed. +1

I think its fine, and nobody is gonna google his name. It was from an EX westler, and tbh it spelt different and wasn't the guys actual name (or i don't think).
