Roger Dodger Moderator Application

(1.) What is your SteamID? - STEAM_0:1:26109460

(1a) What is your most recent ingame name? - Roger Dodger

(1b) What is your current year level in-game? (MUST be 7th to apply.) - Third Year (Prestige 1)

(2.) What Timezone do you live in? - CST

(2a) Please put what times you are most active in CST (Chicago US), so the managers know when they can expect to see you. - 8pm - 12am and varied times for days off from work.
(3.) How old are you? - 31

(4.) When did you first join our server and how did you discover it? - Edit: Sept. 2018 apparently?  Could swear I was on further years back, it was when the new map was introduced, discovered when randomly browsing different gmod gamemodes.

(4a) How can we be sure you will stay active and loyal (with your time) to Star by Star? - Currently I'm on the server daily after taking a break, with loyality I would inform relevant staff if I take a break.

(4b) Do you understand you can be let go at ANY time for inactivity? - Yes

(5.) Do you understand and agree to not only comply with, but also enforce the rules of the Server when necessary? - Yes absolutely.

(5a) When listing the rules please explain what they mean to show that you understand them.
 List Rules below:
1:No FailRP - This is a role playing server and with that people need to properly portray the role they are.  Intentionally deviating from the understood role description is what defines FailRP.

2:Any disrespect, hate, offensive behavior/speech towards others is not allowed - Don't be toxic to others for any reason whatsoever, individuals and groups should not be targeting/harassing other students.

3:No RDM - Random death matches is basically going around and casting damaging spells killing without a proper RP purpose.  RP leaders and character descriptions all have details on when death matches are allowed.  (Lockdowns, Snatcher revealed, etc.)

4:Obey Staff and RP leaders - Speaking of RP leaders, these are the prefects, head prefects, head boy/girl, teachers, and headmaster.  They are the ones that are helping to ensure your school year is productive and within the rules.  On the counterpoint, for dark forces it's snatcher leader, head snatcher, death eaters, vip de, and voldemort that makes sure you are terrorizing the school within the server rules and RP relevant.  Staff are members with (*staff role*) in there chat tag as well as identified as staff in F4 -> staff members online, they are the main authority over the server in assuring server rules are maintained and answer any RP questions you may have.

5:No Freespelling (Massive) - Don't just cast spells without an RP purpose, especially damaging spells are not allowed.  Some spells like speedom and spongify are allowed as they enhance speed to get to class.  Some jobs have sfx spells that are not under freespelling unless it becomes a nuisance and asked to stop (engorgio, fireworks, etc.)  Prefects can cast stupefy to attempt to detain a student who is breaking rules.

6:No Metagaming - Any outside information being used in a malicious manner to get a 1 up on RP situations, basically anything outside of the spirit of the RP game that breaks "4th wall" limits.

7:No Mic/Chat spam - Look, we know you can sing, but don't eat the mic.  And chatting is great and all, but when it's the same phrase over and over again or something completely incoherent to normal speech you gotta stop buddy.  And yeah it's your favorite song, but don't bring that radio into Hogwarts!

8:Adverts for RP only! - Advert is a chat command used only to portray RP events, any other chatting needs to be in /ooc or in normal local (not breaking spam guidelines of course)

9: No ERP (erotic roleplay) - Kids play on the server and Hogwarts is no place for adult content of that nature.  It's a game about going to magic school for crying out loud!  Just no explicit content.

10: Don't avoid AFK or try to find map exploits - Unearned XP is unfair and ruins the chance for others during peak periods to have fun on the server, just don't try to avoid the AFK system...  Map exploits however rare should not be well exploited and if you do come upon an issue with one report it in pm to an admin as to not give other students info on it.
(5b) Expain what the term "minge" means, when referring to a player on the server - A minge is basically a player who has initially connected on the server to only do harm by breaking rules and attempting to ruin others RP experience.  Reason why I say 'initially' is I've seen people in other games who first have that idea to destroy but have turned around after being disciplined and seeing how fun a server can be.
(6.) Tell us about yourself and why you want to be staff on SBS? (100 words or less) - Well I've been an online gamer since the early days of Runescape and aside from playing games I've been able to be a part of maintaining the play environment for everyone to enjoy.  When I was active in Runescape I was part of the player moderator team under the direction of Mod Mat K when he was the community coordinator, learned a lot about keeping professional but also understanding player scopes to promote positive experiences even when helping people understand the rules.  After Runescape I went on to Minecraft, of which I was part of a large server hosting ~1000 different people a week during the peak of Minecraft Classic (the free online sandbox), eventually became a moderator for the server and learned how to use additional tools to build some awesome projects.  Which brings me to why I'm applying, I love the server and enjoy the involvement now and then from different RP points, but I want to provide more back to the server and want to push to possibly get into gamemaker level design as I used to build in gmod a few years back. (edit: 187 words, sorry but wanted to express both credentials fully.)
(7.) What do you feel you need to improve on the most? - Story and world design skills, RP servers give that extra kick on improv storybuilding for teaching classes and proper RP character development.
(8.) How would having you on staff benefit our server and what sets you apart from the rest of the applicants? - I come with previous experience from a game company that has some of the most stringent requirements to become moderation, I can exercise rules enforcement as well as have empathy to bring out the good in most people.  Also I'm old so got some wisdom kicking around the ol' noggin.
(9.) Have you been staff/are currently on any other servers? If so, which ones? (List them if possible) - Runescape / Jagex ltd. - Player Moderator 2012 - 2016 (Voluntarily left, inactivity notice)
- Minecraft / T9K Server - Moderator - 2013 - 2015 (Server discontinued)
(10.) Have you ever been banned on any Garrys Mod/SBS servers? If yes, then please list when, how long, and the reason. - Yes, course it was when I testing my gmod server years back messing around with commands...
(11.) Are the Server staff or the players more important? Why? - Players, because initially we are all players first and foremost and that's how we all arrive to the server.  Players give the staff purpose to exist in a server and staff gives players a safe proper experience of the server.
(12) How would you rate your skills overall out of 10 (EX: Patience, response time, etc) -

Patience:  10 - I give chances, I'm like the English guards, you can make faces at me, you can dance around like a monkey, but once you cross that line I will bark "STEP BACK"

Leadership:  9 - Guess this goes back to my days on Minecraft, but I was mayor of a town of ~48 people in a Minecraft creative map we had.  It was a successful town with roles everyone had in making sure the town had food/resources.  Well that and I'm IRL manager of a hotel *cough*.

Response Time:  9 - Generally on top of situations as doing patrols around and when reports come up would tp to command/assist situations if other mods were there.  Generally on Discord anyways to be messaged about issues.

Fairness:  10 - IRL I'm a realist that looks at the hard facts and determines judgement based on such.  I give directions for appeal if plausible and try to set people on a positive direction.

Kindness:  8 - I'm an absolute prude as you can see, nah I actually do try to be kind to people and keep a civil environment when talking to rule breakers about their actions.

Honesty: 10 - I can honestly say that I'm only gonna be honest about this, it should be a 9/10 for honesty because when asked if this makes me look fat I have to lie...
(13.) If you do not know how to handle a situation in a mod-sit, what do you do? - I inquire any readable material on the matter in question, relate back to any previous situations as precedent and if nothing from those I inquire to other co-staff for support on the situation.  If no other staff are available and the outcome can not be determined I document name/situation and ask that they desist the action/situation until a firm understanding is made.
(14.) You understand and realize, that by applying for staff on the server also means, that you are sacrificing the complete freedom of being able to RP freely all the time without any interruptions, and are obligated to handle all server issues at hand no matter the situation? - Understandable, the peace is more important than normal gameplay at this point.

(15.) Please make a list of all previous staff applications, a link to them, and the reason they were locked. If they were accepted, please give a short explanation of why you are no longer staff. (Disregard if this is your first application) - NA

Neutral leaning towards -1.

I've seen you on the server maybe once or twice. I would suggest being more active.
Application looks good though.
Only thing that would make this a +1 from me, would be being more well known in the community (Do Great Halls, Prefect Meeting, and help out new players.)
You are still fairly new (First Prestige) if I was you, I'd honestly just focus on playing rather than applying for staff.

-1, you haven't been seen since you posted this application.

I appreciate the feedback, my first stint of the server was back in Edit: Sept 2018?, I was active in the game to attain up to Sixth year in that time period (this was before homework so xp was very very slow).  Recently been active for a couple months and enjoying the gameplay.  This is more of an application applying my credentials from other platforms to assist in a moderation concern that has been presented as well as help support the community as being a trustworthy individual with the responsibilities that comes with moderation.  I will say that this is my first forum post on the matter and generally I'm an in-game/discord type person.  The only time factor atleast in the view of moderation is 7th year+ and I meet those credentials.  I'm always down to chat and meet more of the active people in the community, but be warned I'm called Bored for a reason of usually boring people, plus I'm an old guy :P.

Dear god, does every staff app have to be a popularity contest?

roger is a trustworthy individual who knows the rules and goes out f his way to help anyone he can. He’s relaxed and friendly, and he has no major character flaws.

So your app seems good and detailed, I can’t see anything wrong with it.

However, I have only seen you in the server once and I think you need to get more well known and do prefecting, teaching and prefect meetings / GHs.

Hey Roger! As of now my vote will be a neutral/-1, heres why :)

I don't really have any problems with you while you are active, but heres the issue. I never really see you active, so I cannot get a true impression of you.
If you really want to become staff Id say pick up your activity and you could have a shot!

Hey all,

Thank you for the additional feedback on my application, and I'm glad to see that there is a lot of positivity with the interactions I've had with ya'll.  But those interactions seem to be few and far between and I apologize that I have not been able to interact on a more regular basis with each of you.  I do try to get a GH in now and then, as well as lessons as teachers when I've brought in an improv plan that works well within the RP and is entertaining to the students.  Unfortunately there are times where I'm unable to do GH/lessons as I have rugrats running around that tend to interrupt those long periods required for speaking.  And for the best attention of the class I do rely on mic/voice communication to maintain a solid/fun teaching environment.

When outside of class I do help out by directing students to class and try to mingle with other non-student characters to just relax and have fun.  Some students come up with questions about how the spell/year system works and I let them know that it's important to go to all classes as you acquire spells and can learn them when they've reached the year requirement and that there are classes that will help boost their education.

Aside from my current presence in-game I was trying to treat this more as previous credentials going into more of a volunteer services 'job' to assist in moderation concerns that were being brought up.  Understandably people vouching for character is an important part of this process and I welcome the critique.

So I have never seen you on to see what type of person you are
But besides that, your app looks amazing to me for a 1st time, looks to me like you've studied other apps before posting or you asked someone for help
This to me looks like someone that really wants to be a mod maybe just get on more then you'll probs get it
Good luck

Neutral. I don’t know you, but that’s likely all because of the time zones, you play evening whereas I play morning.

As Lydia said, get yourself known. Hold a few prefect meetings or great hall. Sticking out to players and staff will help you a lot.

I really like that your application looks nice and organized :) Although I don't think I've ever seen you on. Doing things that make you stand out is a big part of being accepted for staff, such as reporting, prefecting, teaching, and other roleplay leadership. But I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you! :)
