Hello Larxenn. Thank you for making an appeal.
I overheard you using the 'f' slur in the courtyard, so I pulled you to explain that you cannot use that word on the server.
You spent a majority of the sit justifying using the 'f' slur. After sitting through your ranting, you decided to logout, which is why you received a 3-week ban instead of a warning.
Your request to have other staff look at your appeal has been provided to you. Unfortunately, it is up to me to decide if I should reduce or unban you. Feel free to make a staff report on me if you think I am being unjust. A staff report can be created here.

I will respond in 24 hours with a decision. Thank you to the community for your votes so far.

Just the way you speak about the community’s feedback speaks volumes.

Easy -1 from me.

It’s a part of the rules not to say it. Everyone gets treated the same way regardless of who you’re saying it towards.

Todd is one of the nicest staff we have and I fully believe he handled this sit to the best of his capabilities, people use the exact same argument to get away with saying the n word or other hate speech related things. Regardless of whatever you cannot use it on the server and that’s the reason you were banned for hate speech.

The word is banned on the server no matter the context. If we allowed it for some reasons and not for others it would just result in more problems.

Listen, I get your frustration, but the word restriction is there to stop others from using it against the LGBT community, We aren't telling you you cant use it for self empowerment, by all means do, just not on SBS please. You're assuming that we're all homophobes based on the rules which stop members of the LGBT community being offended further by people who use the word in a violent way, if a staff member tells you to stop using a specific word as it violates rule 2, please obey it, if however you feel that it was unjust you can make a staff report, you might not even read this but I hope you realise that staff are just trying to keep the peace between groups, hopefully you understand.

For now however, as you seem to think you are correct at being able to say that word on SBS, it's a -1 from me.

This appeal is dumb on so many levels. You have every right to say that word off of SBS but the server has rules to protect marginalized people against having to hear hate speech on a daily basis. Until you understand this fact, you will continue to wait out your ban

Hello again.
The community has spoken, therefore your appeal will be denied. If/when you return, make sure to follow the rules even if you do not agree with them.

I'm not sure if the ship has sailed on you reading this response, but I'm going to type it into the wind, just in case you check back here. I'd like to give some form of explanation of the hate speech rules, so you can hopefully explain where people are coming from,

The rules that Hogwarts RP has against certain offensive words, are a blanket ban, which ignore context. This kind of makes sense for some of the words which are banned. The n word is the kind of thing edgy teens like to go online and spam, and there appears to be a much narrower window for reclamation there. Restricting a word like the n word, to only people of colour is impossible over the internet, and so the rule can either be too lacks or too strict. A lacks restriction is simple, it may allow a few cases of hate speech which aren't punished. A strict restriction is a more complex issue. The idea of a strict restriction, is that, people who use a word in a non-offensive way, will be required to not use it - even in a non-offensive way - so that all the remaining cases where the word is used, should be, bannable hate speech. In this appeal specifically, I think the strict restriction of the rule was applied unjudicially (as adding "LTAP" to an explanation of the rules doesn't equal LTAP and real hate speech) which is an issue with a strict, non-contextual view of offensive language which is present in the rules. (To be clear, this isn't a jab at Todd, I don't think I've ever even seen his name before, I'm talking about the system of the hate speech rules)

Words like the n word sort of fit into this system, because almost all cases on the server are simple spam, and as long as I've been in the community, Hogwarts rules surrounding offensive words have always taken the n word as a template, and all others as functionally similar. I don't think faggot is the same: it's generally used either as an insult, or in a positive form, it's not really spammed in the same way, and there's a much larger set of queer-positive uses. Personally speaking, I think there's a good argument to be made that the current rules are too strict - which harms innocent players - and the context of the use of slurs matters a lot, so it shouldn't be ignored. I'm not the right person to suggest a change, because I don't play on the servers, however, anyone who wishes to make a suggestion to change the Hogwarts rules (especially, @DELETE THIS THANKS, if you're willing), can make one here.
