Applicants Steam ID - STEAM_0:0:65855829

(1.) Do you agree to and accept the Volunteer Staff Application Terms & Conditions? If so, please answer with "Yes, I do agree and accept these terms and conditions." - Yes, I do agree and accept these terms and conditions.

(1a) What name and or alias are you most commonly known as within the SBS community? - Trevor Moongoose

(1b.) What is your age? - 20

(2.) Which volunteer community staff position is your application for? - Server Manager

(3.) Approximately, when was the first time that you joined our community and how did you initially discover it? - Around late September to Early October of 2019, through a friend

(4.) Community staff are held to a much higher standard both in general and with activity when compared to standard game server staff. In this case, do you understand that you can be let go at any time for excessive inactivity at our discretion? - Yes

(4a) How can we be certain that you will remain active on the server upon being accepted for a volunteer staffing position? - I’ve stuck around for this long and genuinely enjoy my time here and plan to stick around as long as I can.

(5.) Tell us a little about yourself and why you would like to be accepted for a volunteer staffing position on SBS. (100 words or less) - I’ve been on the staff team since late November early December of 2019 and been an Admin for a little over a year now. Since my time as not only Admin but as a Moderator as well, I helped not only Managers but staff members as well with anything they may have needed help with. Whether it be answering questions on topics they are unsure of, helping out with inter staff issues or problems even just being someone to talk to. Being as helpful as possible and really showing that you care is a huge part of me in being on the staff team.

(6.) In your opinion, which quality of yourself do you feel that you need to improve on the most? - I can definitely work on taking on more tasks than I can actually handle at one point. Sometimes I tend to want to do a lot of work then it will turn into me trying to get a million things done at once.

(6a) In your opinion, which skill set of yours do you feel that you need to improve on the most? - In terms of what skill set I could improve on, it would have to be my organization and planning skills. Meaning poor organization skills could lead to bad planning whether it be for updates or community feedback. Working on that and keeping it in mind I will definitely improve on it over time as I gain more experience in the position.

(7.) How would having you on our volunteer staff team benefit our community and what qualities set you apart from the rest of the applicants? - I believe the common goal that all applicants share is to better the community, and what separates us is the way we go about doing just that. A key factor in achieving this goal is engagement with the community, which I exhibit regularly as I frequently am on the server and make connections with the player base as best I can. With this consistent engagement I am able to recognize issues that are not seemingly apparent to those who do not make these connections. Whether it be with specific jobs and how to balance them or general feedback for the entirety of the staff team and the community as a whole, I am able to problem solve based on my experiences as well as others’ experiences.

Here I will list a few bullet points on what sets me apart in terms of qualities.

Very Approachable and Available- I’m at my computer 90% of the day at any given point any question, thoughts, concerns that anyone may have. Can be answered relatively soon to when it’s asked. Along with my approachability I also look at a scenario with an open and level mind. I’m very lax and nice when it comes to talking to people. Treating someone how you’d want to be treated is how I was raised so talking to someone with the utmost respect and completely hearing them out and trying to work to either get them an answer or solve their problem is something I will do and always have done.

Background Knowledge and Experience with Server Management- Like I said previously I did run a DarkRP server for about a year and a half. In that time of running a server and a community myself alongside a few friends I learned and gained quite a bit of experience when it comes to managing a server. Whether it be background ULX setting permissions, fixing minor LUA problems to fix addons not running properly, working on optimization for a better player experience, creating and or fixing ULX commands and adding them. Alongside background knowledge of PHP, Very minor LUA knowledge and MYSQL. Also creating and changing jobs within the DarkRP gamemode itself and editing configs. I’m definitely well versed when it comes to server management and background development / work.

Overall Outreach to the Community and Hogwarts Players as a Whole- Over the years I have touched base with multiple groups alike on Hogwarts, whether it be the RPers who are diehard at RP and always wanna stay in character. Ranging from PvPers to the constant minge Master Prestiges you see. So knowing and having a lot of the knowledge when it comes to what different players enjoy doing on the server, to knowing what they want and their needs to enjoy and have fun on the server to help create a better experience for everyone. I’ve definitely touched base with a lot of the players and have made that conduit for a lot of the players to the staff team and the community as a whole. Helping them learn and gain a better experience from the server, rather than being on for 30 minutes and hearing the n word 3 times. They actually stick around and enjoy themselves.

Communication and Teamwork- This one speaks for itself, whenever it comes to making a decision or working on a project I will jump at working with someone or multiple people. Getting supporting or contrasting opinions on a subject is a million times better than just making that decision on your own just on the whim. When it comes to working on projects with people, some might see things differently and want to do it a different way and working together to make that compromise is always what’s best. Rather than just saying it’s going to be done your way whether you like it or not. Working together with people is also just a lot more fun in my opinion and that can only help to better achieve that common goal we all have and that’s to create a welcoming and enjoyable experience to all our players.

Below I am going to list a few ideas that I would like to implement that I think could help the server.

Community Meeting / Board- A lot of veteran players will know that when Astro was Server Manager he did something along the lines of a Community Board. Where people from all walks of life on the server whether it was, PvPers, RPers, Dragon players, Animal players, Dark and Light Force mains literally any niche you can think of on the server there was a person on that board. They would meet and discuss certain things that would go on, on the server or just general server changes. Maybe a certain spell affected the way the PvPers played but it was beneficial to the Light Force players. They would take those things and work on them to make changes to better help the community and players as a whole. Now my idea has to do with a slightly different approach where it would be Community Meetings once a month or once every 2 months. This is the time the staff and the players would meet and we could take on server suggestions, take criticism on rules changes or even job updates, give the community general updates on what’s going on in terms of updates or the staff team. This idea brings a lot more cooperation with the players and actually gives them a voice. Because as it stands now it really doesn’t matter what the players want and that’s not right. This is the server they play on; they should at least have some say in the things that go on. I even had the idea to have Google Forms to fill out for general server feedback also with staff feedback, if you feel a certain player or staff member is doing awesome you can let them know. The staff feedback would be gone through first by the Staff and Server Manager to make sure the troll / non realistic feedback would be taken out first.

Hogwarts Discord- The Hogwarts discord is very unused and that is a shame, using it more to post weekly updates or news as it comes up is something I would like to do. As Well as some fun mini server wide events that could happen where you would find out in the discord and forums. Some events could even happen in the discord, this idea was thought up to kind of bring a better moral to the server. The discord doesn’t really get used when there are a good amount of things we could use it for.

Overall Transparency- This one can be controversial but hear me out. Currently within the server and the staff team there is not a lot of transparency. A lot of the time we haven’t heard about certain things going on until they happen. One example I can think of are a couple CBans, I know me personally and a few other staff members found out of players on the server.. Yep that's right. It has gotten a little better since, but all in all it should have never happened that way in the first place and bringing to light that transparency. To me if you can’t share info on CBans or the fact that a CBan is happening you simply just can’t trust your staff. That’s a problem in itself. There also seems to be this weird transparency from the general population of the server and the staff team. Many players feel like the staff team can be like this secret society where we can’t share any information at all. Thats just simply stupid, why can’t we talk about certain things or share certain things? If it’s going to affect a player or players then they deserve to know what’s going on at least to some extent. Now I’m not saying leaking should be okay or that we need to share everything. But I am saying that a lot of this confidential stuff doesn’t need to be so confidential. Not saying there is a lot of confidential stuff, but if there was and it came up that we can’t share that we definitely should.

Finishing Michaels Projects- This one is pretty much a given, I first would want to start off by finishing up any projects left behind by Michael. One of them being a Library Update that a lot of the staff worked hard on together to make a cool library experience for the players. Finishing up the unfinished projects will help to start a new slate for the staff team and community as a whole. Even for the next Server Manager.

(8.) Have you ever previously maintained a game server staffing position, or currently are, on any other Garry's Mod servers? If so, which ones, and in which staffing positions? (List them if possible) - I did own a DarkRP server for about a year that was okay in terms of the player base known as LucidRP.

(9) How would you rate your skills overall out of 10 (E.g., patience, response time, etc.) -

Keep in mind these are just a few of skills as they are the ones I think fit the Server Manager Position the most.

Patience - 9 - I have good patience when it comes to working with others or simply just waiting for things to get done. It’s definitely one of those things that is important when it comes to being a Server Manager, as you are working with others constantly.

Response Time - 10 - I say this is a 10 because 90% of the time I am on my computer and free to talk whenever it’s needed, the few times I’m not at my PC I’m probably sleeping. So I usually get back to people right away.

Teamwork - 9 - I love to work with people, I’m a strong believer in thinking that more opinions and ideas on things can only be beneficial to the common goal you share. I will always look to other people for not only supporting opinions, but contrasting ones as they share different perspectives on the matter which will allow for more insight.

Work Ethic - 8 - My work ethic is very consistent, although sometimes things may feel like they slipped under a huge pile of papers and you’re scrambling to get things done. There is always room to grow and become better as not only a Server Manger but as a person.

Approachability - 9 - I’m very approachable. My fellow staff members could answer that for anyone, I’m always open to constructive criticism or feedback and am always willing and looking to help anyone in a time of need or distress.

Communication - 10 - Communication is of great importance especially when pertaining to a staff team, a server manager should have no problem conveying ideas amongst peers in the community. Communication does not only apply to positive situations, it is also important to be able to confront issues head on and exhibit the correct ways of handling said issues such as de-escalating a situation. This is one of my strengths as I continuously voice my opinion and listen to others’ opinions.

(10.) Provide a couple of examples of situations or issues you may encounter and how you would handle them in the position you are applying for -

Updates or Decisions the Community Dislikes - This one in particular is a HUGE thing in my opinion when it comes to making updates or changes to the server, it’s clear that for the most part not everyone will agree with everything you do. That is just a tough situation and it comes with the position and it’s trying to please everyone while also trying to make positive and helpful changes for the future and longevity of the server.

Honestly, the way that I would approach this would be to specifically find out what it is that the player base either doesn’t like or thinks should be changed. Then I would work with the players and try to meet a middle ground so everyone is happy. Because in the end if the players aren’t happy then what is going to keep them around? Overall paying attention to player feedback is what’s important in keeping the community engaged.

Working with Guy - Trying to get something added to the server whether it be suggestions or changes brought up by the community or staff team that Guy may not agree with.

Working closely with Guy is something that is very common practice when it comes to being Server Manager. We’ve heard that a lot of the time changes were wanting to be made whether it be an update or adding things to the server, and it just came down to being that Guy didn’t want to do it or didn’t like the idea. If Guy doesn’t like it, I would work with him and communicate what he thinks we should change in order for him to like the idea or get behind it. I feel a lot of the time Guy was scapegoated and when it comes to getting stuff done. You’re going to have to talk to Guy and throw ideas back and forth to come to a common ground.

Staff coming to me about an issue with another staff member- While I wouldn’t be the Staff Manager I would be a manager, so if someone came to me looking for help or guidance I would love to help them. I would first start by getting the whole story or really what’s been bothering them. I then would let Justin know as he is Staff Manager he should know and like I said before communication is a big part of having a successful partnership and staff team. After hearing everything out and speaking with Justin about the topic or issue at hand. I will speak with the opposing party and see what’s been going on between them and the other staff member. After taking in everything from both parties and again speaking it over with Justin or even the Admin team to get different opinions. I could then go at the situation either with a punishment, talking to, or maybe even just sitting down and airing everyone's frustrations out. That will definitely work better than just taking what someone says and punishing someone or just talking to them right away. After all we’re all a family and a staff team people will but heads it happens but we always move past them.

If there are any other scenarios you'd like to hear how I'd handle feel free to comment and ask.

(11.) If applicable, please provide a list of all your previous volunteer staff applications, provide a link to them if possible, and list any reasons why they may have been locked. If they were previously accepted, please provide a short explanation of why you are no longer volunteer staff at the time of this application. (Disregard if this is your first application) -

Huge +1

Trevor is by far the most experienced candidate for the position.
I believe that to handle a  manager position in such a huge community, one must have atleast past experiences with managing servers which is the case of Trevor.
Also the way he is friendly with everyone, I think that would help to keep a connection between the Players, Staff and the Management Team.

Big +1

From my experiences Trevor is nice and approachable admin, who does his job Effectively and Efficiently.
Comes close to the top of the list for best current admins as of this time (Imo) both with how he interacts with the community super well and with his stellar performance when both on and off duty.
I couldn't think of anyone else more suited for the position overall, taking into consideration his clean track record, time dedicated to the staff team and his above mentioned skills.

Since you’ve become staff you’ve been active on the server and have been engaged with a community in a very positive note.

The only thing you need to work on from my standpoint is Response Time. From my viewpoint the last few months out of all the times I’ve messaged to staff about issues on the server/sending video evidences of stuff you’ve only shown up twice. Response Time isn’t a 10 out of 10 in my opinion.

Overall I’m giving this application a +1

Edit: I will say though your idea from the old map about Community Meetings is a great idea and I don’t know why we got rid of it in the first place.

Trevor really does know his shit and I believe knows how to lead well; I do believe you will bring good communication within the team and to the server. You are truly really approachable as a person, you do well within your current role and how good views on everything - along with being fair with general judgements.
My only concern is honestly the fact you seemed to go MIA for a bit; although that has improved and you've been active as of recent I wouldn’t want a repeat situation where activity massively drops and things are left unanswered/unattended; though I hope this drives you to stick around as much as you have been the last few weeks as you’ve been a blast to staff with.
No vote as I’m unsure.

Edit: After further discussion with Trevor I think he’d do really well within the position and would bring alot to the role. +1

For me, a very important thing that was a major flaw and/or complaint from the previous server manager was the lack of transparency and the lack of connection with the community. I think the best example of this was with the compendium update, some of the changes just made no sense and it was obvious that no active players were consulted about the change.

I liked that you mentioned how you intend to make the community involved instead of just saying that you would like the community to be involved more.

I think Trevor can lead a team well, has good judgement, could help fill the void between the community and staff members, and along with the reasons that walden and benjamin have said I believe Trevor to be the best fit for the positon.

Trevor is super personable towards the community and is always staying engaged and making connections with players, which is a key strength when it comes to leadership. I think he's really dedicated to the server and committed to improving its quality of life. All good signs as to why he fits the position.

HUGE +1

Trevor is one of the most personable and easy to get along with players on the entire server. He has been active, involved, and friendly since he first joined. In many cases, Trevor has contacted me about concerns that other staff members would rarely respond to when I contacted them. Trevor is and has been a leading force of transparency and reasonable response in the staff team for a long time and he has done so well displaying as much that this is common knowledge among those who know him. This community desperately needs bridges between the staff team and regular players that are all too often burnt instead of being reinforced and Trevor has shown that he can build them. He's proactive, he's well liked (for good reason), he's level headed and I trust his judgement. Trevor would make a great server manager.

I like that you included different things you'd like to add or change while you're server manager, it gives the community an idea of what it would be like if you were chosen. You're a very easy person to talk to and very approachable as well. My only concern is the active drop you recently had. There was no word from you at all and no communication of it to any of us until you came back. You're active now which is great, I'd just be a bit worried if that were to happen again and you fall off the grid. For communication/response time I'd personally rate it just a bit lower than you have (I'd say 8 for both) only because of personal experience. It's been hard to get a hold of you sometimes. Granted, that could just be me and my own experience but I'm just trying to be honest and give the feedback I have- no hate or anything behind it!

For now, I'll be a Neutral to +1, if you did get the position I know you'd do a good job, but I also feel like another role would suite you better than server manager. Either way, Good luck :)

Recently I have really noticed all of the help that you have been giving myself and many other staff members on the server.  Over the past few weeks I feel you have shown a clear consistency of wanting to make your presence known (as I’ve heard you had a large presence on the server in the past as well), wanting to help the community and wanting to take on another role within the staff team.

I do have several concerns that come up, which I have mentioned to you in the past but I believe that they are still relevant.

As stated in replies above, you disappeared completely from the server and staff team for several months without a word.  No one really knew where you were or what was going on.  It’s only very recently that you have decided to return to the server and be active as a staff member.  The fact that you left so suddenly makes me question whether that would happen again.

I believe you show favoritism towards your friends.  I don’t know what happens behind closed doors or when you are in discord calls, but it has been clear several times on the server that you ignore rule breaking that happens within your friend group while at the same time enforcing those rules to other people in the same area.  As someone looking on, it just looks like you turn a blind eye to things that may get your friends in trouble.  If you are talking to them about these instances in another manner (ie private discord calls)  it is not seen by staff members or players on the server.

I think that you have a lot of potential and all you’ve done in the past few weeks has not gone unnoticed.  I just question whether it’s all for the right reasons as it came as such a sudden change from my point of view.

Neutral for now!  Good luck!

At this point in time I feel like I can comfortably say that I believe you would be able to handle the role of server manager.  I really see your dedication to the server and a very strong willingness to continue to work on yourself.  I think that the feedback above was definitely valid at one point, but feel like I've been able to see more that proves you have taken feedback and used it for growth.

+1  Good Luck!
